Just recieved a 20 gig PS3 for a friend, however it lacks any ports under the lid for flash drive, etc. As well after updating the console via my broadband connection, he still lacks ability to eject disk via controller and his saved game data from a PS2 mem card is not recognized when he tries to load his GOW data. The last issue I can look into, but the other two befuddle me.

Any answers, explanations, info or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks folks.

Well I don't know about the disc eject thing, but 20 gig models don't have all the card readers that the 60 gig models have. If I'm not mistaken they're short a couple of USB ports as well. I don't know whether they included the card readers in the 40 and 80 gig models.

Thanks guys, the reason I wondered was because there was a lid and the instruction manual said they are there. I'll work on the eject, mem-card issue.

Appreciate the help.

The 80 gig ones have 4 USB ports and the card reader slots.  Fully featured.

I don't like the 20Gb PS3s... Nowhere near enough storage space, given how the biggest games have 4.8Gb installs. That's, at most, three big games (like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Devil May Cry 4) and around five game saves... Which is pants. Upgrade the HDD as soon as possible, okay?

Agreed 20Gb sucks ass. Though i'd have a problem with it being  non-Wi-fi  even after an updated HDD.

Thankfully, I could work around the lack of WiFi if I needed to... So that's not a big deal, really. It's just the lack of a card reader and the massive lack of space that makes that iteration of the PS3 less than worth having - it's no wonder people are just giving them away...

@ Whoooop

Tell me about it... Any bigger, and it'd take hours for me to download JUST the question!

I actually never used my card reader on my PS3 before.  Flash drives are good enough for me.

I also have the 20GB picked it up for $315 on ebay and upgraded the harddrive (60GB hand me down from a friend who upgraded to 200GB). Since it has full backwards computability I sold my ps2 to for $70 recoup some of the investment of going next gen all the while not losing access to my ps2 library. The 20GB is probebly the best vaule out of all the SKU's if you can find one. Most of its drawbacks can be mitigated, the hardrive can be easily upgraded, you can buy a memory card reader for ~$15 and plug it in to one of your 4 USB ports, and if you had your ps2 online then just transfer the ethernet cable over. So I have a current gen, linux running, blu ray playing, ps2 compatable system for... $315 - $70 = $245, not to bad me thinks.
