That's just ridiculous. It wasn't a random sample.  You have an online survey and people that have had problems are more likely to voice their concerns than people who have had no problems.  A statistics class should definitely be in your future if you think this survey is anything but laughable.

No Because other surveys, real surveys take correction steps to do a survery, asking 5000 random people to answer a poll isn't accurate at all.

GI readership is prob almost all American, and half of the 360 ownership doesn't live in the U.S. Meaning that not only is their survey pool not large enough, they don't have all of the correct demographics.

Again also no one had to prove they owned a 360, and as we know from the front page and places like 4Chan its not a stretch to believe people just said they had a broken one.

Also when you have such a small pool of people you end up having to do a load of other stuff. T-tests, alpha levels, how strong is the relationship between people who bought a 360 with game informer subscription and a broken console.

So many missing key factors make this survey as accurate as me getting a program to randomize 5000 answers

i'm not disputing the invalidity of it all; i'm just saying that this is what is wrong with surveys in general.. for instance, tv ratings surveys only cover one t.v.; for instance, if there is a game on in a bar, and one hundred people are watching it, they'll list it as one tv being watched.. but it's being watched by 40 people.  So that's why certain sporting events, March Madness for example, has lower tv ratings but higher amounts of people watching it.  "lies, damned lies, and statistics" - any statistic can be skewed to say something the surveyor wants.  That is why we always have a stat saying one thing about X, and another stat saying the opposite about the very same X.  Any who, on top... i don't like the "2" in front of the console.. it's my  only gripe with it.. i don't like putting numbers on things (unless they're roman numerals) :-X lol
