I've read a few topics in here that touched on some of the questions I had, but didn't think it'd be cool to hyjack another person's thread.

Anyhow, I'm just a gamer, been playing for almost twenty years now, starting back in 1990. I'm not a fan of any one system, just a fan of good games that fit my style. A 360 and a PSP are the two systems that have been on my mind to pick up within the last year. I've researched around info on the X-Box 360, but the constant word floating around about how 360 RRoD all the time has left me uncertain whether I want to invest in one. There are several games I'd like to check out games like Lost Odyssey, Infinate Undiscovery, Viking Battle for Asgard, Golden Axe: Beast Rider, Armored Core 4, Soul Caliber 4, Dead or Alive 4, Street Fighter 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Force Unleashed, Overlord and Gears of War. I know that half of those are on PS3 too, but the difference in console price right now, plus some 360 and original X-box Star Wars exclusives has me looking toward Microsoft.

(And I don't need to hear/read again that PS3 has MGS4 exclusive, and it's so great. I loved Metal Gear Solid, it was an excellent game and the remake "Twin Snakes" on Gamecube perfected it for me. I've tried MGS2 and MGS3 and watched my cousin play through MGS4, and while they have there shiney points, none of them honestly hooked me. I'm content with just Twin Snakes.)

Back to my topic, many of the news reports I've come across about the workings and failings of the 360 seemed too impersonal, and I wouldn't trust a saleman in a gaming/electronics store to give you all the bad with the good. So I looked to asking co-workers about their 360's. One thing that has interested me, that I've picked up, was even though people may of been on their 2nd, 3rd, 4th or better 360, the fact remains they kept going back to the system, either outright buying another 360, or having it replaced via warrenty. To me this has been saying, even though the 360 may have it's faults now and then, the gaming experiance, the fun has to be something pretty great. Yes? No? Why so?

The other question that's been on my mind, has to do with memory. I know I'd want to pick up a model with a hard drive, I own Star Wars: KotOR and would like to pick up a few more original X-Box games and as I understand it, that won't work on the Acrade model, you need at least a Pro model. I've checked the backs of various games in the store, and they range from just a few KB to save your game all the way up to a couple GB for some newer titles. So I've been curious, considing the list of games above that I'd like to get into, and word from some co-workers, the 20GB Pro should be plenty... but now theres word of this new 60 GB which sounds like a good deal, but would you even need that space? I'm not likely to download movies, I'd just wanna play some games, run them with acceptable load times, probably download some retro games or download something like HD Street Fighter II which I heard was on Live, and maybe have a few wallpapers. So, how much space on your hard drive is used just by game saves, downloaded games and trailers?

Also, this Jasper chipset I keep hearing about, what's it about, or could anyone provide a link to where I can read up on it.

Please -n- thanks.

I think a 360 would suit you perfectly. Failure rates are still a little high, but they
have been cut down substantially. You will still have a warranty if anything goes wrong.
You should get the 60 gb.

One thing I didn't understand though: ''I know that half of those are on PS3 too, but the difference in console price right now, plus some 360 and original X-box Star Wars exclusives has me looking toward Microsoft.'' You are referring to KOTOR?

Edit: Nevermind,you were.

Your list of games you wish to play on 360 isn't what I expected it to be. I've played just about all the good singleplayer games on my Xbox and can't say any are worth buying at full price. This goes for all singleplayer games this generation. Personally, the biggest advantage the 360 has over the PS3 is the games, but more specifically it's multiplayer. It's the king of online gaming and Xbox Live doesn't seem to be slowing down. The amount of hours I've put into Halo 3 and Grears of War is something I have never done on any other console in any other generation.

If you do get a 360, chances are it will break sooner or later. I've had mine for almost 3 years and never bought an extended warrenty, my 360 broke last November. I was console-less for 10 days, I didn't have to pay a single penny during the entire process, and I was literally on the phone with customer service for less than 10 minutes. It broke one time in 3 years and (for me at least) it seems as if Microsoft did all they could to get my Xbox back in working order. I do not think RROD should be a factor when considering buying an Xbox 360.

I suggest getting the Elite. I don't know much about the 60gb but just like the 20gb it will probably become too small quickly.

Hope I helped :)

Yeah, Knights 1&2, and Republic Commando as well.
Fable is another that comes to mind.

Edit: I've tried out a couple of the Halo games, they just didn't capture me. For FPS, I've been happy with Metroid Prime series. :)

My eyes are bleeding....lol

Ok it all really comes down to the RRoD factor...if you are comfortable in knowing that you 360 has a 1/3  (most likely less now) shot of dying on you, then you should get one over the ps3. Youll always be covered on warranty, but its the hassel of waitin 2 weeks to a month to get your console back, that might scale you back.

It took 2 years for my xbox to break....and it only broke because i joined one of the laggiest games in Halo

Another thing thatll be very important factor in which system you should buy, is the online factor. PS3's is free...but in my opinion its garbage (im a huge online gamer)...but it might be the best desicion if your not looking to play online all the time. So ask yourself, "is online gonna play a big role, in my gaming". Money is a factor in that, too.

20 Gb worth of memory, will  only translate to 13 gb...so thats a couple demos and videos. The arcade games will be no problem (there about 20 - 150mb max). Just as long as your willing to delete some of the older content to get new content, youll be fine with a 20 gb hard drive. For me though....id opt for the 60 gb.

I see that you wanna play some fighting games...which wouldnt be your best bet with the 360...the controller trully is bad for fighting games. So for Street Fighter and such, i think youll be better off with a ps3.

I think the Jasper will be coming out with the 60gb models...but im not sure.

Yeah, I haven't gotten into online gaming yet. A good baseball game would probably bring me into it if one can be found, I wasn't impressed by the demo of MLB2K8 I tried in the store the other day though.  Perhaps it'd just take more time to work with..

I've prefered MLB:The Show games, which has been a chip for me in Sony's corner. I can always still get that on PS2.

RROD nowadays is overrated.

Yes the launch 360's had problems, but fact is that since may 2007 MS is repairing them with the extra heatsink put in on the GPU. WHich takes a lot of heat of the mainboard.

From october 2007 and up models, you'll have the 65nmCPU and the 80nm GPU as well as the extra heatsink on the GPU. The % of failure, is a lot, a lot less. And then still. You get 3 year warranty. When the 360 now goes back they put newer mainboards in with more improvements even and they'll do that in the future also.

And even IF, lets say IF it would break down outside those 3 years of warranty. The Arcade is now in Europe on 199 Euro. I bet after 3 years an Arcade will cost you something close to 100 bucks. So if you have to replace the console (you can keep the HDD and just click it on the new one), you have 3 years of warranty again.

Just go for it. Get that 360, it would be much worse to miss these days of great gaming.

p.s. the HDD. It isn't ALL that important, I've done with the 20GB for 2.5 years and having no probs. Because there are no forced installs from games. On the other hand, with the fall update and the choice to install a full game to the HDD, you might want to go for the bigger drives. Then I would even say: get the Elite. You get the HDMI package included (Premium you get the Component cable), plus the 120GB HDD. Only thing: its black so if you want a white 360 there is a problem.

Not sure if that is sarcasm harry, 'cause that article is somewhat aged.

Wrong. Read again. They all come with HDMI port, but only the Elite comes with the HDMI cable package. The Premium comes with the Component cable. At least in Europe it is. I don't know if in USA it is different

That's how long you've been waiting on all games announced by Sony @ E3 in 2005. Thats also how long you only had to do with BluRay movies. I can imagine you're pretty bored, and makes clear why you're spamming the forum actually

I think that the no games arguement still has some weight

Still no Gran turismo (proper release)
Still no god of war
Still no killzone 2
Still no FF games
Still no Jrpgs????
still no LBP
Still no wipeout
Still no SOTC sequel

As a multi console owner the current PS3 standouts are uncharted and MGS4. i just cant justify a $745 machine for 2 games. Where are the Playstation franchises?
