To be honest, this one is kind of an i dunno really. 360 has a bunch of games but the truth is the wii is still the family friendly console. They need more than a 50 dollar difference to get that casual gamer in my opinion

The super cheap price does do a lot but at the end of the day is price really all that matters? 360 has been 100 pounds cheaper than PS3 for a while now in EU. A 100 pounds is like 200 dollars and thats for the standard 60GB model. Yet did the 360 zip past the PS3?

I guess you can say EU is sony territory but still. 360 got a price cut last month and ps3 still outsold it when NPD was released.

I really don't know what will happen to be honest. I want to believe that 360 will outsell the PS3 this holiday due to its price advantage but i can't say so convincingly.

There are too many variables out there. You have to remember that the PS2 is still selling and is still going to be competition for the 360. The real casual gamers who only play stuff like american idol and singstar will still be looking at the ps2.

I want someone to tell me why they think the 360 will outsell the PS3 this holiday. I can only see one thing making that happen to be honest and that is the mighty gears of war

It will have some affect in NA since the economy in US is currently crap.

Over all though, we've already seen it, price is not that major of a concern for a gamer.

While it might not be a concern for us hardcore gamers, Nintendo has shown price means a lot for everyone else.

The arcade is worth very little to me. I know some people just want to play the games but that's a stupid idea when there's so much more to offer. The 60GB is all I'd care about, and then I'd need a wifi adaptor. That's £240. Plus live fees. I could buy a lot of great stuff for that. I'll just stick with the ol' PC for now.

I know you only care about sales figures etc. but that's just lame. This won't have an affect on the games, so I don't care.

I think the it will sell a lot.. well for the sake of fanboys it will.  a $200 console is the magic number ( well 250 with live).  They might have done it a little too early.. time for sony and nintendo to see sales reports for a month to see how it sold before they make a counter move.  A price drop in november would have been more strategic IMO.  Now what if it doesnt sell so much.. now that is a question i dont think fanboys want to answer.

Yea but the economy has been down for a while and the game industry is still moving up regardless. I don't think the economy will have a significant impact. I don't see someone not being able to afford $250 for a console due to poor economy all of sudden affording $200 simply because $200 is a magic number.

If Msoft had seen a bigger boost last NPD, i would have been more inclined to agree with them outselling PS3 this holiday season but as far as i can tell, that hasn't happened.

Obviously I think that it will have some impact, but it's somewhat hard to judge because the $299 price drop on the 20GB model did little to nothing at all and the PS3's Blu-ray is still a big selling point for it.

If I don't see a Xbox 360 model in the Top 10 in the Video Games section on Amazon.com tommorrow, then I think that the intial effect of the price drop didn't have a very significant impact. Right now on Amazon.com the 80GB PS3 is at # 6 in the Top 10 and the Xbox 360 60GB model is at # 91.

True, all I see is a small impact for the price drop, the arcade model is underwhelming nonetheless is I really couldn't care.

Very marginal impact.  A PS3 price drop would have a far greater impact at this time.

The home of the double agent...lol.  We were actually shut down and now are based out of D.C.

I'm in Africa right now undercover.  I should change my location...but then I would not be undercover.

DAMNIT!

Well...

I know its psychologic pricing but...

199 bucks to a lot of people sounds a lot, I say a lot cheaper then 249 bucks. Just because that 2 is gone, although its virtually 200 bucks ofcourse.

Besides that, history has proven that the XBOX 1 started selling when it got under 200 bucks, the PS2 the same. 200 bucks seems the magical number for the mass of people

Yes it was... But it was called the Gamecube, just missed the motion sensor and had some lower clocked (but the same) hardware.

But even then: Viva Piniata on TV is rather big. Viva Piniata is now on NDS, kids would want Viva Piniata 2 and parents don't mind spending 199 bucks instead of 249 for a Wii this Christmas.

it was also missing wii fit and wii sports which are probally the main reasons the thing sells

Sorry I have met too many gamers that no interest whatsoever in buying the Arcade SKU.They are PS2 owners who have not yet made the jump to next gen but they can tell that the Arcade SKU is a ripoff.

I would like Microsoft to replace the Arcade with the 20GB to finally catch the interest of MMO makers who think that the majority of 360s do not have HDD
