I want your feedback on this theory of delineation.

There are three trends in First Person Shooters.

1. Wolfenstein 3d model. Your basic gaming mechanic. Run, gun, find bigger gun, find health pack, more running, more gunning.
2. Halo Effect. Limited amount of storage space on master Chief shifted the focaus away from gun and health pack collecting to a more immersive feeling. FPS become more about the battle and less about the economics of munitions. (economics-The distribution and allocation of scarce resources with alternative uses.
3. Never Die Alone. Co-op. L4D, model Alien: Colonial Marines, and Resistance 2. Usually online people don't view other more then human shield for the back. A game that requires you to take people under your wing.

I never found Halo to be immersive at all. There's limited space on MC, but a constant supply of weapons and equipment at hand, which still ushers in the run-and-gun aspect just like every other FPS does.

On topic: Personally, I find shooters are getting a little bit dry for me, especially so since they all seem to have this unhealthy affinity for all different shades of brown.

Halo 1 was awesome for me. Mostly the story.
but i agree, FPS games all feel the same to me now and most lack a great story. I'm not a big online gamer so i don't look to them for that
R2 sounds great to me for having 2 campaign modes and co-op play so it's the first FPS i'm actually hyped to play in the longest time.

Yeah, I stopped playing COD4 and Resistance ever since the Civilization: Revolution demo came out, damn  that game is addicting.

I'll agree that Halo 1 was excellent at the time, but the series as a whole is far from incredible, and really is pushing the boundaries of "overrated". It simply isn't a good enough game to warrant such hype on release as Halo 3 did.

you know what I personally think puts a nice little spin on FPS.....Brothers in Arms, how they allow for some strategy, you can command troops and in somecases, a stratagey is the only way to get pass somthing.

i agree, Halo 2 turned me off of the franchise completely since bungie started on focusing more on online play than the campaign mode. i know a few people that got turned off of Halo because of Halo 2. Halo 1 was great for its time and was a strong impact on console FPS games though. CoD4 is now my favorite but not by much. i think if R2's 2 campaign modes are stellar it will take the cake.

but FPS games hardly evolved and it's a shame Killzone 2 is the one placed with a burden that everyone expects to reinvent the wheel or something. The cover mode in it will be cool so i can't wait to see how it works out in it.

That CR game is bland.... Pixel Junk Monsters is more entertaining(imo). Anway i think Jon has something with that trend. Im psyched for Resistance 2. And like Kevers said I enjoy that strategy feel on the warzone and also personally like Brothers in Arms's story.

Uhoh....here comes the Halo fanboy....

Halo 1
Revolutionized the FPS on consoles.

Halo 2
Revolutionized -online- on consoles. Not just FPS....ALL ONLINE GAMES
(just cause you dont like online....doesnt mean it didnt do anything)

Halo 3
Does nothing new. But does most things right. Streamlined the online aspect, too perfection. Probably the most balanced FPS shooter ever. In terms the balance of Campaign and Online. Campaign wasnt received well, becasue it wasnt as 'Epic' as most people thought it was gonna be....but it was very fun non-the-less. Halo 3 is apitmay of what a FPS should be like for the next years to come.

Cover system in a FPS wont reinvent the wheel...lol...the only thing Killzone is gonna do, is set a high standard in budget costs. If it fails....i doubt we'll see Sony take another big risk.

And for you and LJ

MGS 1
Reinvented Stealth games. A perfect translation of the old MGS games.

MGS2
turned many people of the series...including me.
What did it do new?

MGS3
Now its total 3d...not that up/down type of view. Again what did it do new...either then a few new gameplay features?

MGS4
A movie
Innovation at its finest.

i never said the cover system will reinvent the wheel, i'm saying people expect Killzone 2 to reinvent the wheel.
what does MGS have to do with FPS?

MGS has nothing to do with FPS's. But the way you guys judge one game a certain way, and fail to judge another game the same way....is unfair.

Here I will try to translate for you. **clears throat** The eggs and ham is a joke referring to Breakfast's name and the last part is saying that Microsoft is still planning to whore out the franchise.. Am I right Meep?

Ah, I see. I was under the impression that it was some sort of inside joke regarding Canadians, which may have thrown me off track. That or I'm just slow.

But thank you for stepping in to clear it up.

4 Generations my friend

1. Wolfenstein/Doom. Your basic gaming mechanic. Run, gun, find bigger gun, find health pack, more running, more gunning.
2. Just a Half life. More based on storyline and puzzles, allows you to be sucked into the game, while also making you think.
