I'm planning to pick one up in the near future since I only have 11GB left on my 40GB PS3. It's not necessary if your primary use for the PS3 is playing games.

i have a 320gig samsung internal in mine and i'll probably never fill it but thats just me.... besides, i know i'll get an external later to back it up someday...... depends on what you would put on it, 500 gigs is ALOT of storage

At the moment the PS3 is more compatible with streaming media than it is with media stored on the HD so I'd say 500gigs is kind of overkill atm. Maybe if you throw Linux on there it could be handy, but there isn't a really great Linux distro for PS3 yet. Give it another couple of years.

PS4 will probably have some sort of massive SSD in it. Should help with power consumption and noise. You won't find your HD filling up with PSN downloads very fast even if you buy everything that's even remotely interesting, but I did forget about the video store. That's going to suck up some space when we get it here in Canada along with PSN cards.

Nope. We Canadians really get boned sometimes. The movie store is probably coming before Europe gets it. They probably just had to get everything translated for the Quebecers first. As for PSN cards, all the stores that currently carry them aren't in Canada, but Blockbuster is supposed to be getting them soon so they might be carrying them at their Canadian locations too. At least that's what I'm hoping for. I think we're considered the same region as the US so if You can get an American PSN card it will probably work for you.

Edit: Yup. Works just like a credit card would. Try not to double or triple post.

That's up to you my friend. If you feel like you're going to need 500GB of space then give it a shot. My main reason for purchasing a 500GB harddrive in the future is because of Sony's 10 year plan for the PS3.  Who knows how many games/movies I will purchase on the PSN by then. Not to mention the damn gigabyte's installations on hard disc copy.

It's cool, just edit your last post instead of double posting if there hasn't been a reply yet. Also if you asked a question, check the posts above before asking again. Somebody may have answered already.

Edit: And stay away from 4chan.
