My HDMI cable will arrive in a few days so I was wondering which resolution would melt my eyes. I've heard people say 720P is better for fast action sequences and 1080i is better for watching movies. I don't have a 1080P HDTV right now so 720P or 1080i would have to do for now.

I don't really notice the difference but it probably depends on the size of your TV. When i play on my 27 inch tv 720p looks best. But then i have a 42inch that plays 1080i and it looks like crap, 42 inch that plays 1080p is by far the best though

Mine's a 32inch so 720P would be best suited?

Yea i had a wierd 32 inch that used to run at 1080p even though i knew it wasn't.

720p is fine in my opinion. Most games use that as max resolution anyway so you won't miss much

from what i've heard from many people, the only difference is when the tv is 40 in. or bigger; other than that, you cannot tell the difference between the two.  I'd suggest stick with 720p, and don't upgrade to a 1080p t.v. until you get one 40in.+

Progressive is better than interlaced.

Id say go with 720p  it does great at processing a high speed image with minimal blur 1080i streaks pretty bad. looks great for low speed but real bad for action games and shooters. besides the two are almost indistinguishable. Again you just get less streaking with 720p.  Im a tech nut feel free to hit me up for any high def and Audio Q's

Ya. Its best to use 720p.  As mentioned, progressive is better than interlaced, especially for games.  Plus, a lot of people get headaches when they use interlaced because of the way the image is brought to the screen.

I prefer playing games on 720p. Everything else ( movies, wallpapers, etc) looks better in 1080i. Wish I had a 1080p set though so I wouldn't  have to deal with all this nonsense.

My TV is 1080p/720p/480p. I would only ever bother turning 1080i on if (for some reason that can never exist) something only played in that HD resolution. 1080p is overrated, unless you have a really big TV. I noticed the 720p/1080p difference on a 62 inch. Not on my 19 inch HD set (which I sit right in front of like a computer monitor. That's just how I roll, I'm used to it).

I'm unemployed at the moment so I can't afford it.

Hopefully, I'll have some money left over from my financial aid to purchase one.

1080i looks much better on my 42" plasma, where as 720p looks better on 21" PC monitor.

However it really depends on what game you are playing. For example the pall version of Uncharted doesn't support 1080i (unlike the US release), so the game runs quite a bit worse at 1080i, much more frequent screen-tearing etc.

Not to go off topic here. But shouldn't a Thread like this be in the Gadget & Tech Section? =/
