Ok, i have like only 5000 mbs left on my 60 GB PS3, and im looking to upgrade my storage for 2008 and beyond. I was looking and ive decided i want an External hard drive, so i was looking at walmart, saw a few External Hard drives, but i have a few questions before i make a purchase on one, here are the questions:

Will all External Hard drives work with my ps3?

How do i exactly transfer all of my PS3 data into the external hard drive, so that i dont have to use my PS3's Hard drive anymore?

Does a External Hard drive come with like a transfer cable to transfer all my data into my hard drive, or do i have to buy one seperatly?

TBH, i just upgraded mine and i went with internal, i got a 320gig samsung for less than $100 and it had fantastic reviews and am very pleased with it... super easy to install

as far as externals go, i dont know what to tell ya, but i can say the internal idea worked great!

They should. If it's NTSF you'll have to reformat it as FAT32 though (easy to do).

You still have to use the internal HDD for games (downloadable and saves). You can just copy it pretty easily.

Does a External Hard drive come with like a transfer cable to transfer all my data into my hard drive, or do i have to buy one seperatly?

99% likely to come with it, but read the box anyway.

Anyone can answer this, but....as far as internal HD's go, does it matter if it's 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM etc....I know that I myself would get a 7200 for a laptop (which is the style of HD you have to use for the PS3 as we know)...but I'm not sure if access time matters that greatly for performance or compatibility on the PS3. What does Sony's standard drive rank in at in RPM's?

Well in theory he can back them up on it, but cannot actively access them directly off an external....as far as I know an external can have whatever the hell someone wants on it, so it'd be good for backup of saves etc..right?

Right, that's what I did when I restarted Burnout Paradise for fun, just in case I wanted to go back to my old file.

AFAIK, the drives that ship in the PS3 are all 5400 RPMs.  Most of what I've read online state that upgrading to a 7200 RPM hard drive isn't worth the extra cost, as the loading times aren't much faster or even noticeable.  Maybe someone w/ 1st-hand experience can expound on this.

So anyone able to give testimony on the harddrive usage of RPM's between 7200 or 5400 for the internal on PS3?

Also, people here have a certain brand to stay away from? I like to stick to the big names, Seagate, Western Dig, Hitachi etc...
