Well I have a daughter who just turned one in March and I am curious when a Good time to start trying to potty train her would be, I'm kind of doing alot of this stuff on my own, and kids don't usually come with intructions so I figured the past way to learn is to ask other parents.

I know that right now is probably too soon but maybe not, and advice is completely appreciated.

I realize I don't meet basic requirements, but I helped with the potty-training of my niece and nephew!

Girls tend to be interested in learning the whole toilet thing before boys, so at this stage I'd say 1 is too young unless she's really interested.  2 is more typical.

Lol well that would obviously be a bonus but no thats not really my primary concern, Parenting had been a trial and error process for me because before I had my daughter I had no interest in having kids.

When she came into my life though my brain completely changed for some reason and I don't know what I would do without her, so really I just want to do right by her, and help her develop the best I can.

Really they will only do it when they are ready, But the best thing to do is to observe when it is go time and take her in there even if it is slightly after the fact. Eventually the light will go off and she will associate "going" with going to the bathroom...In fairness though I have a son and he was a lot easier. Still working on dialing in the aiming every now and then since he is 4. lol.

Hmmm....lets see, my niece was potty trained I think by 1 and a half. I REALLY started with my son prolly when he was about that age too. I got him associated with it and stuff like that. Got him a toilet seat, not a little potty, because I noticed that it kind of confused him. Another thing too, my son was potty trained by the age of 2, but he REFUSED to use public restrooms I think until he was about 2 and a half or 3! The automatic flush ones almost took him down with the pee!! So remember when you do take your little one out to hold your hand over the sensor.

I haven't had to deal with that in around 5 years, but from what I can recall, you should wait another 8-12 months. When you can effectively communicate things verbally is a good time to start.

I would def get them associated with it though. Get her a potty book, or we got my son the potty elmo because he was obsessed with him. It worked well.

lol, that's a real mommy trick right there!!  don't even get me started on movie theater seats, my 4 yr old nephew is still so freaked out by getting swallowed up in one he sits on my lap whenever we take him to the movies.

@Cat-I haven't experienced that yet, but we did go to the movies yesterday and I told him to make sure he scoots far back into the seat so that he didn't fall through!!!

I really appreciate the advice everyone, as I said this has really all been just guessing on my part, I've gotten through somethings, she's walking, talking, I got through the teething stuff, but alot of this stuff is a bit overwhelming sometimes.

I just wish sometimes that childern came with a guide because some of the things she does just blows my mind, the other day she was supposed to be taking a nap in her crib, and I was in the room next to hers and the next thing I knew she was sitting at my door just giggling.

O I remember those days. The first time my son climbed out of his crib, it was everything BUT graceful. He landed flat on his head!! Carpet burn, big lump, and a bruise too!!! Every child is different. My son has talked since he was probably 18 months old, actually even earlier than that I think, but my nephew on the other hand didnt really talk well until he was almost 4. Its all different!

very sound advice!  I still remember his first movie, we took him to see Cars and he just climbed right up and went right through!! I would've laughed if he was so freaked out!!  That one he wouldn't even sit on my lap, he just stood in front of me the enitre movie.  So funny.

He was slow to potty-train though. If he was at all distracted he just forgot about it, as though he had pretty much decided that playing with trucks was more important than not crapping his pants!

Agree with it all being different.  My niece wouldn't talk, walk or eat solid food till well past 2, but her younger brother is only 15 months and walking and eating like crazy.

well although its a ways off I've already purchased my 12 gauge for those little punks who think they are taking my daugther anywhere lol, I know it may be a double standerd but I have a naturally protective nature over girls and thats probably going to be double when it comes to her.

luckily I have a long time for all that right now I just gotta keep her happy, and learning without going nuts or losing my hair in the process.
