Hey, I was hoping you all would let me delve into your collective pool of knowledge and pull out an answer for some troubles I'm having.

My husband and I just bought a new computer.  At my husband's parents house, he still had a copy of Adobe Photoshop CS installed on their computer.  He went over there and burned it onto a disc, and brought it back to our place to put on ours.

We had no problems getting it onto our computer.  We started the program up, it went through loading the presets and brushes and whatnot, but when it actually was all the way started up, and error message popped up that said something about the computer not allocating enough RAM to run the program, and Adobe closed.  We tried it a few more times, and the same thing happened.  Matt played with some settings, opened Adobe back up, and the same thing happened.

We know there's plenty of RAM for it to run, (3 gigs) and no other programs were open at the time.

Any thoughts?

Have you toggled the RAM % usage? Checked the Scratch disk allocation and updated the thing?

I've read about RAM problems with CS. I say bring it down to 20% and increase it by 5% intervals. If that doesn't work, check out adobe's site for more info.

While I have absolutely no idea what you just told me to do (Aside from the Adobe website thing, which I'm going to do right now.), I'll write it down and give it to Matt.  He knows enough about computers that he should know what you're talking about, or at least be able to figure out what you're talking about.

Thanks Tempist, you're awesome! ^_^

Well, if Tempist's advice doesn't work (I'm hoping it will, because in that case we could have it running by tonight!) and I can't figure anything out from the Adobe site, then I may hit her up for some help.  Thanks for letting me know, Duke. ^_^

If you think you're up to it;

Go to the file menu and click prefrences.

Under that a new window will show up. At the top of the window it should say 'Genera'.

Click the down menu and go to 'Memory & Image Cache'. There will be a section named 'Memory Usage' and in there will be a slider for RAM usage.
