How useful are those buttons on the main site. In fact i feel they are useless and simply serve as tools for fanboys. With the agree or disagree system, it simply turns things into a popularity contest. Fanboys saying complete rubbish stack up on agrees. Personally i think it feeds the fanboy spirit of n4g. If the agree, disagree buttons were taken out, fanboys would be forced to be more sensible. When a fanboy says rubbish and fellow fanboys agree, it just encourages them to say more rubbish. If there were no agrees or disagrees, fanboys wouldn't have as much confidence

I agree it seems like the agree/disagree tool is just there so people can go against you without ever having to say a word

If the system wasn't there they'd be on another site which has thumbs up or down...oh wait... that's a good thing :o
Well.. it's not as bad as the Live review/rep system... getting negative rep because someone thought it'd be fun to say that I was trashtalking when I don't even have a mic. or that I was "unsporting" which basically means that I've been team killing, driving the wrong way and spoiling the game... all I recall playing the first few days was gears of war with no friendly fire :3

fully agree with what you said. most of the time i try to write a decent post that actually has a point and i don't get any attention. then i write deadbox3fixme and any dump comment after and i get 5 agrees minimum. but in n4g's defence i don't think everyone who agrees gives a bubble. cause extreme fanboys end up with one bubble in no time.

In the end it's a bunch of BS anyway. If someone really is opposed to what I say, say why you are. Otherwise it don't mean jack to me.

the whole agree/disagree is BS... its easy to hide behind something anonymous, it should show names...but its stupid when i write a fact or a question, not an opinion, and i get like 5+ disagrees?

Don't pay to much attention to those things. People sometimes disagree just to piss you off.

I think people get to upset when they have disagreements to their comments. As long as I'm not having bubbles taken, I don't care about disagrees.

I would, however, favor allowing the person to turn on and off agree disagree on their own post.

I could make a statement like "I played that game." which I would obviously not enable voting or agree/disagree.

You could offer yes/no; and agree/disagree, and maybe some others that could be enabled. For example if I say "Are you getting GTA IV" I could turn on a yes/no prompt on my own post, kind of an informal poll. Etc.

Fanboys wouldn't disagree if they knew people knew who they were. That is the perfect solution. Let us see who the disagreers and agreers really are.
