I was just listening to some J-pop, and it led me to wonder how many people actually listen to genres of music which are really abstract for your culture(being people you are around, school life, area you live etc.)?

For me, I listen to tons of J-pop/rock/metal, <----Visual Kei, eurobeats and trance.

J-pop being strange since I live in Canada where there are hardly anime conventions, JPN. affiliated music, or anything in general. Truthfully speaking I only know three others which have liked this genre so i know its rare to listen to this stuff where I am.

Some groups would be Ayumi Hamasaki, T.M. Revolution, Nightmare, Flow, High and Mighty Colour, X Japan, SuG, 12012, etc. there are tons of  groups I listen to in this genre.

Eurobeats would be mostly music from Europe obviously, which isn't really considered big here. Stuff like O-zone for example.

Theres also trance, usual that would be considered a pretty big genre, but where I live rap is mostly dominant sadly. I listen to stuff such as Armin van Burren,Basshunter, etc.

I really listen to most anything. I have about 7 terabytes of music/sound files I listen to. I have found music I like from over 100 different countries ranging from most any genre. I even got lots of polka, yodeling, moaning, I got weird "apocalypse music" which is basically eerie instrumentals filled with screams of people in agony making you think like demons have broken out of hell. I have mp3s from old gramophone records containing music from as early as the late 1800s that I listen too regularly.

I don't really understand why anyone would consider a genre awkward, but my answer is going to have to be Finnish vocal-folk music. I don't know if you'd consider that awkward, but here's an example.

I like folk music. Polka,Finnish Vocal Music(Now I know what it is), Irish stuff that I can't name and Greek music( syrtaki)

Here is an example.
Or if you want, this.

For those who want to know what it is before clicking on the link, those are Youtube videos. But the Youtube
links that Harry190 gives are always of great quality or worth your time, so don't worry.

I also like classical music that most people don't even care about.

Damn, B Man said Eny before me. I hate Bjork.

J-Pop and video game music would be mine.

I like Orange Range, and the Pillows definately. But when it comes my choice in J-Pop, I mostly go for anime specific like

I'll listen to a huge range of Bleach, Naruto, FLCL, Death Note, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo (Nujabe = pwn), .Hack// and a crapton of other animes I watch.

Video game music for me mostly comes from RPGs: Xenogears/saga, Wild Arms, Final Fantasy(insert number here) and so on.
