Ok, so normally when you want to make strange ascii characters you hold ALT and press a certain numerical combo. Such as 188 for a ╝ corner type symbol.

However, my PC doesn't seem to be following the normal pattern. Try this yourself, hold Alt and type 181 on the num pad. You should get ╡ but for some reason I end up getting Á.

Basically, it's not working how it should do. The sequence from 180 to 190 inclusive should be:

┤ ╡ ╢ ╖ ╕ ╣ ║ ╗ ╝ ╜ ╛

But I get this

┤ Á Â À © ╣ ║ ╗ ╝ ¢ ¥

Some of them are right, some of them are miles off. Thing is, 187 actually sends Firefox back to the home page, so that ╗ is pasted from notepad.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the hell is going on

. I don't know when it changed or what's causing it. (Chances are I'm missing something obvious but Google hasn't helped me yet).

The only thing I can think of is maybe it has to do with the font¿

┤╡╢╖╕╣║╗╝╜╛

Hmm, works for me just fine. I dunno what you are doing.

180 = ┤
181 = Á
182 = Â
190 = ¥
191 = ┐

I know it's not font based, it's something to do with the keyboard set up. I'm at work right now but I will check they keyboard settings when I get home. (It works the way it's supposed to here).

It's probably a difference in ascii and unicode.

I think you're better off using unicode character coding to do your thing.

Ok, apparently the "code page" has something to do with how this works.

To find out your code page: open a command prompt (Win+R then type cmd and hit enter) and type "chcp" without the quotation marks and it should tell you.

I currently have code page 850, so for anyone who also has the same issue as me (and others that it works fine for) which code page do you have?
