Bought a Dreamcast... Again! - Monday, September 21, 2009 8:14 AM
So I had a Dreamcast, bought @ launch in 1999, but it died on me outside the warranty period. At that time didn't look back, but with the 10th anniversairy I thought to buy a 2nd hand one back again.

And I did! On 2nd hand sites in my country, the cheapest ones without too much extra's are 50 Euro, going up to 100 Euro or even above with some extra stuff and games.

As always, everything is cheaper in Germany and damn also their 2nd hand Dreamcasts! I just had one of the best deals I've seen on it in weeks:

Dreamcast, 2 controllers, VMU, Keyboard, light gun and 14 games... For the freaking low price of 34,40 Euro. I'm hyped about it, can't even get work done anymore today. Now I just have to buy that VGA Box for the Dreamcast to attach it with some better image :-)

I just had to share this. And I'm looking into a Genesis/Megadrive emulator disc, anyone that knows which is the best emu around for the Dreamcast?

You find it looking ancient? I'd say it looks more modern then the PS2's design, or the XBOX 1 that is...

I know, I have kept all my old stuff, MSX-1 in its original box even, all booklets, my 1982/1983 Nintendo handhelds (Popeye, Life Boat etc.) still boxed, MSX-2, Amiga 500/1200 all my consoles, oh I love it so much.

Even for those that just started gaming with the PS2, it would be great to buy some old machines and see how games have evolved and play those damn fine last gen games!

WUT? What age are you then? You need to buy some old consoles or play them emus ASAP!

@ Blood

type:

www.ebay.de and keep an eye on the Dreamcast stuff... I bet some will send it to USA even. The Germans dump the Dreamcasts for incredible low prices.  Aren't they sold in black on Ebay in USA? Must be expensive I guess....

I think the black Dreamcast was a limited run for some kind of special sports package they had available at some point. I haven't been able to find one.

Damn, for real... You must be educated, this is seriously a problem you hanging around here constantly and never played games before last summer. Buy a 2nd hand Dreamcast, get the Genesis/Megadrive emulator (search them torrents), but a Wii and softmod it to play all the other consoles (NES, SNES, Amiga, MSX) or do that on the PC if you have no money.

Fack me. This is unheard of.

it pains me to think of all that could have been had sega been in the console game still

treasure it always, i was a fool and allowed several of my old console's to "pass on" to the afterlife, but for the little amount you get for them and the game, it's not worth it considering all the nostalgia value they have years later.

Oooh, sexy. I still have my original Dreamcast but I don't seem to have many games. A lot seem to have gone missing.

Blood, check out this thread:

http://forums.n4g.com/090909-couldnt-resist-I-just-bought-a-Dreamcast-m709042.aspx

The TS seems to have found a black Dreamcast @ Thinkgeek. You could ask him.

@ SpoonyRedMage, search Ebay, all those games you can buy for reasonable prices overall. ANd if you don't them torrents find everything you wish for. The Dreamcast even runs 'backups' without modding. Worst security ever.

Re:Bought a Dreamcast... Again! - Monday, September 21, 2009 10:12 AM
I bought a Dreamcast like 3 months ago for $20. The only game I have is the first MvsC because a friend gave it it to me,  and a broken Sonic Adventure disc but I don't have memory card or any other thing.

I am planning in buying Shenmue 1-2 sometime but I'll be pretty busy  with the bunch of games I just bought from ebay for $90: Killzone 2, Infamous, Heavenly Sword, Star Wars The Force Unleashed and Uncharted (now tell me if that wasn't a really sweet deal!). I just got a PS3 slim and lots of games you know... I'm just waiting for them to arrive sometime soon I hope!

edit: Oh! How could I forget about Skies of Arcadia! I want that game so bad!

BTW I heard that the Dreamcast has 480p support through component cables? Is that true?

The Dreamcast has 480p support, thats SDTV format so logical. Don't buy component cables (don't even know if those excist) but the VGA Box. It'll cost you about 20 bucks (same as the Dreamcast price then LOL) but it displays 480 even on your computer monitor. 99% of all Dreamcast games support that native...

Or here

Or maybe even this cable

http://www.racketboy.com/store/sega-dreamcast/dreamcast-vga-cable-box.html

This one if you live in the USA! I am gonna buy that also, it gives sharper image than component, as it also does on the 360, its like this: HDMI/DVI (only digital ones) > VGA (this and on are analog) > Component > Composite and other SD connections

If it improves the picture even if it is just a little then that's great.

It makes a LOT of difference for sure, although ofcourse 480p reso remains SDTV.

The good thing from the VGA Box (not the cable) is that is has VGA output but also A/V for those games that don't support VGA native. Like on of the best on the Dreamcast, Soul Calibur too bad.

If you can't find certain games for a reasonable price second hand, again search google in a creative way ;-)
