I hate having to rely on game reviews to know if a game is good...i just acquired Brave Story for psp on http://www.goozex.com and wanted to know how it plays from people that actually play the game, i have been rpg deprived sinc FF Tactics on psp, and Jeanne D'Arc, which are both almost the same exact games.

I finished one(a had already beaten tactics on ps1) and i couldnt finish jeanne d'arc due to the fact that it had all this stuff that i didnt wanna waste all my time doing other things(like combining abilities) to get stuff, among other things that made it feel like a chore sometimes, but all that is beside the point

anywayz, I wanna no the pros and cons, and all out brutal honesty on the stuff that you guys didnt like about the game.  It looks like its good, i saw the metacritic score was like upper 70, which for a psp game is good, especially when your highest game is only 91, and i think there was only like 2 rpg's on the top 20 list, so its kinda hard to find a game that you really wanna keep on the psp - except beats, which would be #1 if it were even on the website

From what I have read the game seems kind of glitchy, so I am wary of it.

I played Brave Story and thought it was a fairly interesting title. The story isn't too complex, but it's not bland and generic like Astonishia story (God...that game, also on PSP). The premise behind the game is explained pretty early on in the game. There's a twist of course to the story and it's a good one that keeps you going. The random battles aren't too bad, and the battle system is pretty much based on character speed. If the character is naturally of a high speed, they'll be going first in your battle formation. Your main character doesn't speak but of course his quest is noble. In the beginning you get to make the basis of your character, is he more for attaking/melee, more mage oriented, or more with a high defense. One of the plus sides of battles is that you have combos with every character. Each character has a combo or two with another character, or a group effort, so you can try out different formations if you like. there's also a decent amount of side quests and missions you can perform to get items and levels.

The only bad thing I'd say about the game is sometimes the story will drag abit before getting to any decent part. And don't expect a monumental exciting awesome story, it's just a good, solid story for a good solid title. I'd definately recommend it if you're RPG starved and need a break from the strategy rpg that is Jeanne D'arc and FFTactics.

nice, lovely review, you might wanna put that on N4G reviews...that was really good. I just ripped some kid apart with his first review, which was GTA4 and he gave it a 10, for personal reasons, not real reasons.  i guess im just really tired of all the biased reviews and websites, thats why im so hard on reviews, and i rather get insight from people that have actually played the real full game, not the promo for the review, and real people that arent paid...

So, now im a little more excited...folklore at home and brave story on the road

For a minute I thought you were talking about my review, I was kind of filled with little bits of joy and then realized that other guy posted like some major kick ass review.

It's a pretty underrated game just like Gurumin. The story is pretty generic RPG fare to begin with but it's interesting enough to keep you playing. The combat is turn based but they added some style to it with the little comic book "thwak!!" popups and dynamic camera angles and such. Music is ok, graphics are pretty damn sweet for a PSP game and could pass for a PS2 game. Oh yeah, and there's cockfighting!!
