This isn't any sort of "Official" announcement but lately the pending section has been hammered with stories awaiting approval. It seems the more stories pile up the less get approved as it seems to be a monumental task at that point. I think a good rule of thumb is if you submit X stories approve X stories.

If you are a contributor, please help and do some approving in pending. It will be greatly appreciated, and will help keep the news on N4G the freshest and most up to date of any website. Thanks.

That would lead to someone approving some random story that they didn't even read, so they could get their own story approved quicker.

I have a story that's been there all day with 0 approvals(and 4 comments), I just need one more story to hit the front page and I'll be able to approve story's too, and I have a feeling this is front page material. I'm going crazy here!!

I approve too even though I'm a newbie contributor myself.  Still, I give a minute or two before approving them making sure the articles are legit. The biggest problem I see is that people tend to judge the article, legit or not, whether it would be popular or not.  An example of this is that I have submitted a couple of Wii and DS articles.  Those articles took a good hours waiting to be approved until the good man that is JamieSL single-handedly approved them.  Contrast this to articles concerning PS3 and to a somewhat lesser degree, 360 articles.  Those articles would hardly take longer than 10 minutes to be approved.  In short, the approvers base their articles on whether the general N4G populace would like them or not.

If you try to submit a news story, then I'm pretty sure it directs you to the test. Not sure, I took the test the day that I joined XD

I try to help, but my approval rank is only 1

10 out of 12... xD The last question is stupid, though. Both examples are identical.  Maybe I should read the guidelines?
