Of course I'm sure you meant rewarding the approval of stories but that could become problematic as I'm sure some people would just start approving stories left and right without actually checking to see if they are of quality first.

By the way, I saw the Perfect Dark submission. Maybe it's just that, like me, others saw it and felt that ONE screenshot wasn't really all that newsworthy. I just don't see how one single screenshot is all that to make an entire submission over.

Well, I'll tell you what "some" of the problem is... 
 
I busted my hump one month submitting, approving, etc and "thought" that I came in third place for the month in the N4G contest.  I was happy!!  Woohoo!  
 
But wait, I wasn't really in third place.  You know why?  Because I mistakenly assumed that everything was taken into consideration for the contest.  But nope... JUST submissions.
 
So... do I spend my time looking for articles to submit that will contribute to my monthly score for the contest or do I spend my time approving pending subs?
 
I have definately slacked off of approving because of that... and I'll try to do better...
 
BUT, the solution is to have ALL activities count towards the contest.  I'm not saying... I'm just saying.

 

Hey I had been away for like 2 yrs but im back and seems the site is same old ps3 xbox 360 dominated and well i really dont care about that but what bothers me most is that wow the time news spend "Pending" on the site is ridiculous they become news and by the time they get approved a day or two later its not news anymore whats up with this why doesnt an admin take a look at the pending section and eigther delete the ones that now are not news anymore or just give it his/her approval so it can get posted I mean 6 pages of pending news c'mon!!

Yeah we definitely need some kind of new system to get submissions approved. Looking at the pending section now, the number of submissions sitting there is just crazy. The ones that have been there over a day is even crazier.

This isn't any sort of "Official" announcement but lately the pending section has been hammered with stories awaiting approval. It seems the more stories pile up the less get approved as it seems to be a monumental task at that point. I think a good rule of thumb is if you submit X stories approve X stories.

If you are a contributor, please help and do some approving in pending. It will be greatly appreciated, and will help keep the news on N4G the freshest and most up to date of any website. Thanks.

Great topic. I submitted an article of mine 11 days ago and it failed miserably...Without any major issue.

Now I put another story on the website and it's already falling behind... Help me with it!

Tell all the mods that have more approval points than everybody else to help out in pending.

I've recently returned from being gone from N4G for several months, and I've noticed that everyone seems to be submitting news, but not very many are approving them, and if they are approving, it seems like only the friends of the submitter are approving.

I know there is no way to stop that, but I suggest making more of an incentive in approving articles properly.  For example, if someone just "mass approves" stories and the stories that they approved get reported, take a certain amount of points away from their approve score.  

My main point is, that there aren't enough members approving stories, and if they do, they are just mass approving.

That's my 2 cents.  :)
