Be honest - do you pay attention to the storyline in videogames, or is it really not that important to you?

I think it depends; if the developer has provided a deep story then I usually take notice, if like in gears of war the story is obviously an afterthought, I'll treat it as such and not really pay attention

It depends on the game for me, and how its put together. Example, I just played Uncharted and was soooo caught up in the story. I found it managed to draw you in. In COD4 however, I didn't care if there was a story or not. I just wanted to have fun and get caught up in the excitment of running and gunning.

Yes, that is why I dislike many FPS.

I like RPG's though, and of course my favorite series, the MGS series.

Depends on the game

I can honestly say that this new GTA has the best story so far.  The others I was just not that interested in (save III and Vice City)

I pay FULL attention to any game's story because story is kinda the most important thing in a game for me.
Heck, I even fully follow story of shooters and FPS games that don't really have a story.

yeah. I like the single player portion of games alot though multiplayer is cool for me as well.

Im not too picky though. Like i won't nitpick games over story as long as i like the game. But yeah I try to follow the story.

RPGs... of course, that's what makes the game.  FPSs... not so much.  It really depends on the game.  A FPS to me can have a horrible single player storyline but still be awesome gameplay wise.  An RPG can't do that.

Always do, then I judge whether it sucked or not.

Favourite stories are LOK and MGS, bar none.

It depends on how much the game makes me want to care.

Games which have little or no character development and/or wafer thin story-lines aren’t worthy of having me care about their story lines.

Recent examples of this include Battle for the Pacific, Turning Point, Viking and even  arguably Dark Sector. Dark Sector tries, but never really pulls off a meaningful story line.

No, because I don't care for it. If the game I'm playing is good (gameplay) why should I care for storyline? Go read a book if you want story, you chumps!

Definitely look at story here. What the hell keeps your attention, and how do you suppose things add up in the end if there is nothing to go by.

FPS's haven't had a good storyline since Quake. Sorry, but it's the truth.

I prefer games with a good story but it doesnt hurt once in a while to play a game with no story at all...
Like some people watch movies only if the plot is good, But i dont mind watching a 3 hour karate film of nonstop action with only 2 words per minute in chinese without subtitles, but to some people thats considered torture.

Storyline is important but good graphics and control are more important. You do need a good story though.

The story is of the utmost importance to me. A game without even a halfway decent story is not worthy of my time or money.
