Does the PS3 need more family games?
-
Thursday, October 22, 2009 12:20 PM
I have a buddy who works at a GameStop in a residential area. Obviously he gets a lot of mothers and parents and family members who are looking for games for their kids. Obviously, not all of them actually BRING their kids along with them, so they don't know much. He told me that the parents are almost always asking about the PS3 these days because of the Slim's promotions and TV ads, as well as wanting a Blu-Ray player. But the parents are always asking for what family games they have and he finds himself stuck. Sure he talks about LittleBigPlanet, and sure he talks about some of the SceneIt games, but he doesn't know what else to say. And more and more he's finding parents skipping over the PS3 to a Wii or 360 or something they know more about. I love my PS3, but I know the "parent shopper" is a large part of any console's revenue. Is PS3 losing out?

The Playstation brand caters to all ages equally so every age or group will have something to like. Wii tends to cater to the yungins , 360 more to the teens...but they all have something for everyone so it's...

I feel that both PS3 and 360 have about the same amount of family games. Correct me if I'm wrong... The Wii is really for family games while PS3/360 has more hardcore games as well as some family games.

NO and he should get informed about all the PSN games that are more family friendly. also he should advert the multi plats for the PS3 too even though alot of them have the record as being "better on the 360" ... they wouldnt need to know or care about that crap anywayz... I like a system that is dedicated to the REAL FUC*EN GAMERS.

I would not think that the PS3 is losing out bc the Wii is for families. And the family market as a whole is such a small niche as is. Sure the Wii sold a ton of units but you then have to ask yourself how many people turn on their Wii's now. I mean people are still playing Wii sports and that came out with the console when it launched. But another question is how many Wii owners wished that they could play a better lineup than what the Wii has to offer. Most of the people that I know have a Wii but they have one of the other systems as well to fill the more mainstream or hardcore gaming niche. The Wii is a pokemon product that there was huge buzz about because it was revolutionary to the time and was the cheapest gaming system this generation. But the people that really buy the games are the people that are playing the more mainstream game, not the party games. You would also have to look at the family games of the past on the Playstation and notice that the PS3 is not the family or party console that the Wii is. The Playstation is built for one type of gamer as the Wii is built for the party group gamer. They are of totally different worlds.

I used to sell games at bestbuy but switched departments. When I get asked that here is the list of games I usually go through: Lego Batman Lego Indiana Lego Star Wars Kung Fu Panda Little Big Planet Ratchet and Clank Tornado Outbreak plus all that Disney **** games that come out. Also tell him to mention the psn. It has a great list of kid friendly games for cheap. I think PS3 has a great mix of everything which is why I bought my ps3 before my 360. I've always loved the Playstation's diversity in games not that the 360 doesn't it is just that I think Sony is more likely to take new ideas for games for varying audiences.

Wii tends to cater to the yungins , 360 more to the teens...but they all have something for everyone so it's... i kind of disagree about sony going to every audience. i think they are more adult(like fighting and gore). thats why i got the PS3. i think they are pointed at a older age group but they do got games from movies.(which are considered kiddie) Ratchet and Clank i guess would be called kiddie.
<sjel> yeah well, trying to correct people on irc or in forums is like skating uphill.. backwards
