I have both systems Playstation 3 & Xbox 360 and I play of them equally.
But one thing that gets me the most is all the players on Xbox 360 that take the fun out of the game by boosting.
“Hay anyone want to help me get my 10 consecutive kills”
But if you don’t want to comply you get booted and tagged with bad feedback.
I use to check Achievements in the lobby before  the game to see who I had on my team.  Most are fake and can’t get one kill let alone 10 consecutive.
To me 360 is losing a lot of its hardcore games, hope this doesn’t happen to PS3 with the new trophy system.

I think it would be fun to have "Accomplishments" but I wouldn't take it too seriously. The best we have so far is in Resistance and i think it's cool knowing i killed 5 chimerans at the same time with an air-fuel grenade.

What game specifically do you mean?

I know in Halo 3 I've encountered some achievement boosters, but overall achievements are an overwhelmingly positive feature.

The longevity of some games is easily doubled with a good set of achievements.

And personally, if GTA IV didn't have achievements I would have stopped playing by now.

So...

If a game has a point system that keeps you playing longer and coming back for more, instead of just forgetting about it, that makes it less hardcore?  I would think that makes a game more hardcore.

I don't really understand why you said 360 is losing hardcore gamers but i don't think achievements are a necessity. Its nice to get an achievement when you get 200,000 points in guitar hero but i wouldn't go out of my way to get it

It would have been nice for the PS3 to have an achievement system, but I think it's too late now for Sony to release a successful one. Xbox got it right because it was there from the start, and so they were able to standardise everything. None of the games out at the moment support Achievements (sweeping statement), and most in development probably won't.

Also, I dislike the way that the 360 achievements system penalises non-gold members. Meaning that a player can't get all of the achievements in a game unless they pay the neccessary subscription to play the game online.

I completely ignore the multiplayer achievements for games. As for singleplayer ones, I try to get the ones I can without overstressing myself :P
The achievements give me something to do after I've completed the game once so I think it's a good way to get people to play the game at least one more time.

I love Achievements and it would make me buy more PS3 games when they get a good achievement system going.

Although as far as boosting is concerned, people boosting and achievement whoring ruined Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for me.

I for one can live without them. I dont know how but i'll manage I like online leaderboard type things and sometimes try to compete in them but i don't think i could be arsed with achievement things on every fuppin game.

I think single player achievements are nice, but I never saw them as a necessity. Multiplayer achievements sound like the devil to me.

In fact, I'm having a ton of fun right now using cheats when I turn on sleep mode and start creating mass havoc in GTA4. That's something some of my friends at work wouldn't even consider because they are too worried about their precious achievements points. I'm not really knocking on them, but I'm glad I don't have to worry about that crap.

I do like the trophy idea for Home though. It doesn't sound like a complete knock-off of achievements and it's a nice feature for Home to show off to your friends when they visit (if it ever actually comes out). Who knows though. I'm sure there are even idiots out there who would boost for a friggin virtual trophy.

i personally don't care for it much. the only game i've tried unlocking everything was in uncharted just because the game was fun as hell.
but it's a good feature to have for those who want it. i think the trophy system will look good in home as opposed to a static number on a gamer card.
it's not a must have feature but it does give better replay value to games.
