I know it's a common problem and a challenge to contributors not to put in dup stories. I use  the search feature and search the headline. Sometimes it happens anyway.

Yes... I've heard of search MaximusPrime ... but maybe you could provide me a quick tip on how to perform a better search since you seem to be very good at it.

http://www.n4g.com/NewsPending-161883.aspx

Two reports came in about this story saying it's a dup but I can't find it. I am querying "ps3 movie download" and just "movie download" (no quotes) hoping that an open movie+dowload query will bring up anything with those two words in the last 10 hours. I see no dup.

Like many stories however... I see plenty of advance buzz and rumor but nothing about the official anouncement. If this morning's announcement by Kaz is a fully approved story I'd like to see it... I can't find the thing.

If it's a pending story that was submitted before mine, I'd love to know how I can drill down my search to the pending area, I guess I'm not certain how to do this.

I don't meant to be sarcastic or seem angry in the least. I sincerely want to bring quality news. I will assume that MaximusPrime wasn't being sarcastic either was volonteering to teach me about search. I may be in dire need of a point in the right direction.

btw. Is there a way to question reports of dup content in the reports section? To answer back without creating yet another report and not changing or correcting because I don't think that can be done with dup reports?

Thank you
hd

Here are the details about the video store:http://www.n4g.com/ClickOut.aspx?ObjID=161762

I do agree the search function is not very functional. It does not always work.
Also,I apologize for saying that about another member, but Maximus Prime is not an
authority when it comes to reporting and has often left inappropriate reports.

The problem is that sometimes they break down the news from an original article into little bits and chunks
and put it online.

Check your pm.I sent you something.

The article was failed. But none of those who reported provided a link.Which is wrong.

While we're on the subject, can you code the duplicate report so you HAVE to submit a link, otherwise it won't work.

People reporting without links is so infuriating.

thanks for your help and advice. It'd be nice to be able to define the dup... there are multiple elements to a story. Sony released a whole business presentation just recently (it might have been today) and there have been a flurry of articles about it lately. Some have even appeared on n4g.com today.

I was afraid to touch it because I figured any news story touching any information from that .pdf file from Sony would be categorized as dup. But there are nearly endless legitimately unique stories from just that one story. So many morsels came out in that report and it has been analyzed several different ways. In fact Kotaku has several stories all from that one report - but they're unique stories.

My article about PS3 movie downloads being offically announced by the pres of Sony Computer Entertainment has failed but I still don't buy that it was a dup. I can't for the life of me find that same story on N4G.com. I am all for improving search - search on pending and requiring the dup be linked to so we can at least find it.

Well after a quick serch these are the different links I found by which people might have reported yours as a dup:

http://www.n4g.com/News-161762.aspx

http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News-161908.aspx

http://www.n4g.com/News-161821.aspx

There are also a lot of alternative sources from the first link.

owch... video store ... not movie download ... I might have tried to figure out what 'else' people were calling it. The article I read talked about movie downloads and no combination of movie... download... ps3 ... etc was bringing me these results.

I never thought to search video store... mystery solved. But man was it dogging me all morning!!! I was all like... DUP?!?!

Yep, same here.

I first searched for 'movie' & the first result was over 100 days old, then I remembered they were going to call it 'video store', so I changed the search & bingo.

It's still a tricky tool to master the search engine.

I think having tags would help make the search process a lot easier.

well i really hate losers who make incorrect statements

A group of teenagers blocked off a street and threatened all of the people who passed with a baseball bat, crowbar and broom handle.

http://www.n4g.com//NewsPending-162868.aspx

Ok for some STUPID reason people say that article above is a duplicate of with the article below
http://www.n4g.com/News-162001.aspx

what makes them different

1 - My Article is about 2 people not 6 like in what they say i duplicated

2 - My article takes place on the street not in a store

3 - my article is about threatening people who are walking or are in their own cars. It has nothing to do with stealing money from a man which the other article is about

I'm seriously having a problem with the weekly store updates.
According to the R&G the original source holds priority over outsources.
So if that's true, then the original source ie. Playstation.Blog should be the approved proper submission over any other submission concerning weekly updates.

So if that's true, then the original source ie. Playstation.Blog should be the approved proper submission over any other submission concerning weekly updates.

Let's quote the R&G and go from there, b/c this is a recurring problem:
quote:

Sources
When posting a news story always link to the original source of the story. Most websites just recycle news from other websites. Try to track down the site that posted the story first and use that site’s story as the basis for your N4G news post. You can still give credit to the website you first found the story on by putting their address in the “Credit” form.

There are however some situations where linking to another site than the original source is ok. If a website has an updated version of the story with new info or if their article is a lot better written than the original it is ok to link to that article instead. But the general rule is to always link to the original source of a story.

The PS Blog should be used and is the original source ONLY if it hits the web first and/or has more info. Therefore, if another source that does not refer to content on the PSB becomes available for submitting before the PSB, and it has the exact same information, then it is okay. It would be a much tidier situation if the PSB has the info first. Then - report away, the story should use PSB.
