So it isn't only me who thinks E3 is dead, EA is even saying it'll have its own events.

quote:

"I hate E3 like this," said John Riccitiello, Electronics Arts' CEO. "Either we need to go back to the old E3, or we'll have to have our own private events."
Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America, concurred. "E3 this year is terrible," he said. "The world used to come to E3. Now it's like a pipe-fitters show in the basement."
Sega of America's president, Simon Jeffery, said he doesn't want to go back to the days when he would spend $5 million on E3. But he said there should be some more flash to bring back retailers, who have abandoned the show.

Yup scrap E3 and just have your own events.  That way we don't have to hear about games we already know about and how mass market stuff is coming out too.

Yeah they already have Ubidays. Don't expect Capcom, EA, Konami, Nintendo (unless they have casual stuff to show), Square Enix, or Ubisoft at E3 next year. Really Capcom and Square Enix only had Q&As at E3.

This, combined with the Miyamoto interview where he basically said E3 isn't for gamers any more, makes me believe that E3 is already dead.

Edit:

Anybody miss this sort of thing being at E3?

You obviously didn't watch E3.

Capcom's E3 was a Lost Planet movie Q&A

EA thinks they can do it themselves at their own press conference.

Konami's was horrid and didn't announce new games

Microsoft used E3 to show their casual attack on Nintendo and then just showed off all the games they already announced

Nintendo says E3 isn't for core gamers anymore. They also didn't announce new games and basically let EAD 2 show off. All the games were from one development team and they didn't show Pikmin or Wario despite announcing them

Wii Sports 2 = Wii Motorsports + other stuff anounced in 2006
Wii Music = Wii Music announced in 2006
Animal Crossing = Animal Crossing announced in 2006

So they basically finally got out information on all the games based on E3 2006 tech demos and didn't show anything else.

Square Enix used E3 to talk about Final Fantasy on Xbox 360, and didn't show any games.

Ubisoft showed off its current lineup but didn't announce new games, and they already have Ubidays so they probably won't go next year

So yeah Microsoft and Nintendo used E3 to show off "casual" games to the media and the other companies I mentioned either didn't do anything at E3 or can't be bothered to go next year. So yeah I'd say its pretty dead. What would E3 be like without Capcom, EA, Konami, Microsoft, Nintendo, Square Enix, and Ubisoft?

It'd just be a Sega and Sony press conference that's what.

Doesn't news stuff stay mostly out of the forums?

I agree with the quote.. either get rid of E3 as is and let companies do something similar to Ubi-days, or go back to how it was.  It used to be a huge event where everything big was unveiled; now, not so much.  Companies hold back things for other events, and private showings nowadays.  SONY will show much at TGS; before, everything wouldv'e been shown at E3, and SONY shows things that would interest the region in these regional events.  E3 now has become a regional event.

Which is why it is ridiculous that MS held back the next Halo ip and will show it at TGS

So far what Ive seen from the last E3 the smaller devs and the lesser known titles seem to be getting the most out of the show many of the big guys seem to have either turned into investors conferences or are simply too frustrated that they can show real stuff the way they want it so they have turned to show the big stuff in their own private events or the classical behind close doors in a bunker at E3

funny that a TON of devs signed on like crazy for more direct showing of there games in online shows like GS Live Stage Demo of E3 then showing stuff at the freaking E3 floor booths -_-

If the trend of devs not showing or showing very little of their titles (for not saying actually even attending) and saving everything for there own events continues E3 will is pretty much dead becoming the Investors Entertainment Expositions or Indy Entertainment Exposition (and hell the last one has an actual better and more dedicated show)

...if anyone read or saw the interviews with some devs you will know that the whole "ZOMG thank God its smaller now we can show better stuff" was changed for the whole "F_CK this S_IT, the good stuff is at our private show coming in X month" >.>

I completely agree. Despite the fact that I really enjoy watching the press conferences on my PC, I think it should either go back to the old E3 or just die. Publishers already have their own events before E3 so what's the point?
