I did a manual download of the 2.40 firmware before they took it down. I haven't installed it, but upon getting home I read the news on the web about the complications.

I'm really too scared to proceed.... Do you reckon it's safe for me to install? or should I wait? I probably still can play online without it right?

I was lucky enough to not get any problems, and I downloaded directly from my PS3. Although, the update did something to pharmd's PS3 and it looks really bad.

If I'd known about the problems some people were having, I might not have downloaded it. But, since the majority of PS3 owners seem to be doing fine with the update, you could risk it.

Not very reassuring :D hahaha

Ok I'll work up the balls to do it..... at some point,... after my blueray movies that I rented are done

Good idea, you should get the most you can out of your PS3 before you do :D

I downloaded the 2.4 update yesterday morning to a USB drive and installed it. I have yet to experience any problems except that while playing COD4 this morning, on 4 separate occasions I put like 10 bullets into someone and they didn't die or even take damage. I heard the 2.4 update was causing lag issues in COD4 so I'm blaming it on that even tho I think I suck at the game anyway lol

Strange i heard 2.4 cause lag issues in MGO but not in COD4. Anyway, i'm sure sony will be releasing 2.41 soon that will iron out most peoples problems
