Hey poeple,
As always, four days ago, i was complaining about how slow vista was, so i went to services.msc and disabled a few more things and got a huge performance boost, but (un)fortunately, yesterday, windows crashed after installing some cumulative updates so I've decided to format it because it was a long time since i did.
So i was running a dual boot setup, 280 gigs for windows, and 140 gigs for ubuntu, so i wanted to some more space in the ntfs format(for windows) because i needed them, i ended up formatting ubuntu and making all the hdd under the ntfs format, so i run through the hell of installing windows, and making all the tuning, and putting up the UAC(i keep it on because it really protects from viruses, a great but annoying security enhancement from xp), and finally voila i made it.
So one of the reasons i formatted ubuntu gutsy was that i knew that the new ubuntu dubbed could be installed under windows in the ntfs format so, that's what i did, downloaded hardy, burned it, and made the install, the installation time is super quick compared to windows, and the process has been vastly improved compared to windows, even surpass it in some aspects.
So i booted it up for the first time, and everything was running smoothly, i had no compatibility problems, the speed is blazing fast(10 even 20 times faster than windows) so i begun tuning some settings adding some graphical effects to the desktop, so by the process i installed the nvidia general driver, which is ok(nvidia only cares where the money is) but it was a great improvement over the basic graphic configuration in ubuntu, and the effects begun to roll and they are brilliant, and smooth, so afterwards i installed some software which goes like a breeze
I can go on and on and on.....
well to be concise, my experience was so brilliant, that i totally removed windows and installed only ubuntu.
I'd recommend everyone to try the new version of ubuntu, you can easily try it, by installing it like a windows software, and when you boot up, you'll have the choice of booting either windows or ubuntu, so play with it, give it a chance, and decide for yourself... and share with the people on the forum your thoughts

I wouldnt run 8.04 just yet... stay with 7.10 until 8.04 has all the bugs worked out.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux though... you'll be amazed at how great it is compared to Windows. I've not had a problem with a Linux machine (that was not my fault) and I've been using Linux for over 3 years now (started on Suse, found Ubuntu to be far superior).
