I got an email yesterday and thought it was pretty interesting so I thought I'd share it.  Fun Fridays FTW!

3 Men go into a motel. The man behind the desk said "the room is $30", so
each man paid $10 and went to the room. A while later the man behind the
desk realized the room was only $25. So he sent the bellboy to the 3 guys'
room with $5. On the way, the bellboy couldn't figure out how to split $5
evenly between 3 men. He gave each man a $1 and kept the other $2 For
himself.

This meant that the 3 men each paid $9 for the room!
Which is a total Of $27 !
Add the $2 that the bellboy kept = $29 !
Where is the other dollar?

Please ignore the fact that three men are sharing one room, k?

Everybody has part of that dollar, the bellboy has some change, the manager has a penny, and the rest is split between the 3 men.

Status: offline 		it's just sneaky.  The answer is: yes, each man paid $27 in the end.  Add the $3 that were returned to them and you get $30.  The $2 are irrelevant.

25/3 = 8.33

This is a fallacy of a math problem.

It comes into picture when you consider this:

30 Paid

25 - hotel
3 to the mens
2 to the bellboy.

30 total.

It's the rounding math that doesn't keep things proper.

It's the absence of accounting for the 25 that muddles things up.

In the end the men paid 25+3 and lost 2 dollars.

Edit: Dub, the $2 bit wouldn't be added to the 27, but subtracted from it (bringing the $ back to $25 which is the cost of the room).  The $2 are a red herring to distract you from the simple $3 to each man, 9x3=27 and 27+3=30.

The men paid $27

EDIT:

LJW, playing the piano always gets rid of my headache, unless it's hangover-related.  Aleve™ always helps me regardless, since there's no alcohol warning on the bottle   Hopefully you're better by the time me or someone else can find another Fun Friday piece.
