Getting a laptop to replace my broken desktop. How's this look? - Wednesday, September 30, 2009 6:46 AM
This is right around my price range so unless you can find something better for more than $900 with s&h included, this should do right? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220590

It would be an all around laptop. I don't play many pc games outside from MMOs, so as long as I can run those I'm good. That's a pretty nice laptop too btw.

Which one are you talking about? Also I was reading the reviews on the one I posted and some of the cons are it comes with a 32 bit system. So does that mean it can run 64 bit? Once I get it I'm going to upgrade to windows 7 and I might as well go 64 bit if I can.

Why would you want a 64-bit OS? You'll get lots of compatibility issues with that...  Until MS doesn't drop the 32-bit OS forever then it is better to stick with a 32-bit. Unless you're a programmer or like to play really powerful games like Crysis at its maximum settings but seeing that you're buying a laptop then 32-bit is the best option.

Nice laptop, I bought a Dell last year with those same specs(except that mine has an 8600GT with GDDR3 and 1MB of cache in the CPU) for $1,200 and just now when the warranty expired now I'm having lots of problem with it, like:

*I have replaced the battery 3 times in 1 year
*One of the speakers doesn't work anymore
*The laptop got so hot  at one time that the entire panel around the keyboard came off
*The touch-pad doesn't respond accurately

Next time I'm buying a MAC($2,000) to install it Win7, most of these laptops with GPU are a waste of money. They get too hot and kill the batteries too fast if you use it constantly. MAC's are made of quality not high specs with crappy hardware. For crappy hardware and high specs desktops are much better.

Hey I just found this laptop on bestbuy that is significantly cheaper than what I first posted and looks as good. Let me know what you think. Also, if you are using 4gb of ram atleast and will be using newer software I thought 64 bit is the right choice?

That one has a much better graphics card than the one you posted first. Otherwise they seem on par.

That's not a bad laptop either.
I would post mine, but it was 2500 dollars and heavily upgraded. It is a Dell Studio XPS.So far it has been the best laptop I have had.
