Anybody else here mess around with making themes for the PS3? I've been wasting some time on a few to pass the time until GT5P and I've hit a problem. Here's my problem that I will present will imaginary examples.

Say I have a picture of a zebra. And I also have the icon images of the PS3 XMB. How do I copy that pattern (the zebra print) onto the icons? I've seen some themes on PSU and I've noticed some themes that did this. There is a cookie monster theme where every icon has a real cookie pattern on each icon.

Any help would be seriously appreciated. I've talked to a lot of people online and in person, and I have yet to meet someone fluent in photoshopping.

Thanks Timmy, but I already know how to do all of that. In fact, I know how to do a little more. My main problem lies with transfering a pattern of something onto the icon.

I know how to make icons, change their color, switch them with different icons and so forth. I'm trying to give a good example of my problem.

Pretend I want to keep each original icon that comes in the p3t file (which I do). What I want to do with these icons is apply a standard pattern from a different picture (the cookie theme was the best I could think of) onto each one of the icons.

I was using Paint.net and I haven't had any problems, but I can't figure out how to do this one thing. I've got an idea for a theme with a Metal Gear Solid background and it would kick so much ass if I could make this work.

I've downloaded a trial of Photoshop but I still haven't figured out a way to do this.

I'm trying to do something to the effect of taking the pattern of the zebra on the picture and overlaying each icon with it.

You are officially my hero. How did you do it? If you want just PM me with the details. Seriously though, you did exactly what I've been tryin to do. Thank you. And is this specific to Photoshop?

It all comes down to layers and masks.... In Photoshop or Maskng-able program.

PS @ Fatman, Take it el Mac user. TAKE IT. While I simply use my Tablet PC to make the best icons ever.
