I recently wrote a guide going over how to use WMP and other products as media servers for your PS3. I have a few guides for Windows and Mac and comprehensive list of products as well as user comments, suggestions and then some. I'd appreciate your feedback if you have any additional reviews or suggestions on DLNA media servers. I hope this helps those that need it and thanks to everyone for contributing!

My how-to is located here - http://www.rbgrn.net/blog/2007/06/using_your_ps3_as_a_media_exte.html

I think your guide is too basic, because I tried using guides similar to this and I always had the problem that files wouldn't transcode to my PS3 but Pictures and Music always worked. I finally found a guide that helped, where it involved me having to uninstall all codec packs and codecs, and installing a single codec pack (FFDShow) and setting this filter to play and encode all types of media.

I use TVersity, it is very good, but Nero MediaHome is a lot easier to use on your PS3

I think I need a bit more help, although rbgrn's explanation on his website helped me originally set-up my media server for my PS3 using Windows Media Player, so thank-you very much for that.

My question is about the PS3's ability to find other "servers" on my computer. When I ask it to find media servers on my computer, it only finds 1, which is "Documents and Settings" (which has nothing in it). My Movies, TV Shows and Music are all located on External Hard Drives that are shown as a "drive" on my My Computer screen (I think they're "G:" and "H:" or something like that). Is there a way to tell the PS3 to get the information from those external hard drives instead of from my "C:" drive where the documents and settings folder is located?

Thanks very much.
