Has anyone had there 360 mess up the way mines has?

That being: Whenever i turn my 360, it ejects the tray, and the option to Open Tray is on screen, and when i close it be it with the controller or manually, it then says Close Tray as an option...

The tray is recognized by the 360 as the complete opposite of it's current state. And you know what ticks me off to add on to my frustration. You know how when you turn off your 360 the tray is injected if it was already outside. Well mine if it was inside, it pops out, and if it was outside it stays out and the 360 only then turns off.

This basically makes all my games unplayable, and considering i dished out more than $1500 on games... this is not the kind of thing that would make me want to love the machine. I was hoping that the RRoD would happen to me, but sadly (and i cant believe im saying that) it hasnt. And you know why I wish it did, yup, because i could've used the 3 year extended warranty to get it fixed or get another one. Now i just got this fully functional 360 with a stupid recognition problem that cant even be fixed at any cost.

If ANYONE can offer any advice i would be enternaly greatful

if you got the RROD, then it should be covered even if the whole machine fried....as long as it shows those 3 rings, it should be covered, if not the convince them to stop ****in around and take responsibility for their rushed product.

And trust me, the only funny part of this story in my opinion, is me praying i got the RRoD instead of anything eles

No...the funny part is that we only here about RRoD....not the other hardware failures.

If your machine is really unplayable and there is no way to fix the problem,
you could try to overheat the machine to force it to get RROD.
That way you could get it replaced.

I wouldn't do it though unless the machine has turned into nothing more than a paper weight.

Its fully operational, except for the thing i mentioned about it being all stupid, and recognizing the tray as inside, when its really out vise versa.

So what would you do then in this case? (im thinking about over heating it and forcing the RRoD, either way, even if i dont, its, still busted)

You could call Microsoft and ask them if there is a common fix for such a problem.

Alternatively I do have a suggestion... Eject the tray, but hold it such that it doesn't actually move. Maybe that will trick the console somehow. Only a thought.

IMHO do this...

When you get a refurb back. Sell it or trade it and a few games you play the least for a new 360. This way you get a brand new 360 with a 1 year warranty that covers everything and the three year RRoD warranty.

Also think about getting the extended warranty for MS if you get a new console. For about the cost of a game, you get peace of mind for 2 or 3 years.

How old is your 360 you get a 1 years warranty on everything as far as I know if your console isn't registered with MS t will still be i warranty just don't tell them when you bought it they don't ask for proof of purchase.
did all this start after a system update it may have been something in that that screwed your system you can reverse all system updates by holding down he pad sync button as your console boots up
but to me it sounds like your drive has broke I remember my mate fixing his quite easily there a meal washer inside the drive that had come loose in the middle of the lower spindle that hold the disk in pace with a magnet the comes down from the top which made his drive do this it was just a case of carefully gluing it back in place then it worked fine but i'd try MS firs as the new drives are better if they replace it.

Nah it doesnt, you can try it on your own console and it will do the same, it wont mess up or anything. It will just abort the command and wait for the next available time it can eject proplerly.

Believe me ive tried it all, even pressing the eject button and quickly manually ejecting it faster than it should and quickly putting it in, and it fixed it. That is....until i turned it back on after shutting it down. It actually read the game once, but every time after that, it would make a constant low pitch beep noise and just stop reading the disc, so now the laser itself is completley messed up i guess.

In any case, ill be getting the box soon, and hopefully when i get it returned it will be a refurb, or even new at any chance

Currently waiting for the box, and thanks for everyones input. Im just wondering, like seriously, how stupid of a company can you be to put out such a faulty product and not discontinue it, I thought the 3 rings were an enough problem already, but ive been looking around and there are tons of other issues.

In the real world, any product exceeding 5% failure rate is something companies consider an awful product. But i've never seen such a stuborn company like Microsoft, and a bigger idiot than myself to actually think everything would be OK...let just hope i get a working one back, if not, then I really am never purchasing a 360 for as long as I live, I started with a PS3, but they are just making it tradition to delay things beyond belief...maybe i should have stayed with the slow and steady, but sure game company like Sony...
