well to be honest, a receiver that can decode hdmi 7.1 lossless sound is very very expensive. Your best bet would be to get a good 5.1 surround sound receiver system, that you hook up via optical cable from the ps3 to the receiver. You would still have to run the hdmi sound from the ps3 to the tv. Onkyo has some decent home theatre in a box that is around 300 dollars. Harmon Kardon is a step up from that, but its a little more expensive. Denon has some good recievers, but you will have to buy your speakers separately, maybe som infinitys or polk, or boston acoustics. Good luck in your search. P.S. just to let you know, the hdmi or optical cable runs from the ps3 to the receiver. These two types of cables carry the 5.1 or 7.1 sound (the 5 and 7 are the number of speakers, typically center channel speaker, two front speakers, and two rear speakers, with the .1 being for the subwoofer) When the hdmi or optical get to the reciever, the receiver decodes and separates the different channels. The speakers are connected to the receiver via those two wires, typically red and black.
