Why hasn't anyone mentioned Batman: Arkham Asylum? I know it's not the blockbuster that Unchartered or Modern Warfare is but it is a great game!

Wow, thanks everyone, I'll make sure I bookmark this for future use. I've played Call of Duty 4 a lot before cause I do own a 360, but I'm fed up with having to pay for online play and the thought of having my forth 360 break on me. Once again, thanks everyone, and I can't wait to play on the console I should have gotten in the first place. :D

Edit - And the situation I'm in now is that I'm tight on cash for a few days, but will have more in a week so I needed a game to hold me over for that time.

Uncharted 1 is the game you need....  If you need online in the game then you could get Killzone 2 or LBP if you like creating levels and sharing them.

When you get an influx of cashish MGS4 might be something up your neck of the woods (rent before buying tho, not for everyone).

If youd like to get you Ratchet on! then ACIT is worth your while.

gah! You people. 1 comes before 2....I assume you went to grade school. Both are stellar games, so it's not like you have to skip over the ****ty original to get to the good one. This isn't Killzone we're talking about. Buying Uncharted 1 is just as good of a decision as buying Uncharted 2. May as well do it in order.

In that order.

Then once you get through all that, look for

Demon's Souls, Infamous, Resistance 1+2, and the Ratchet and Clank Series.

Good point.  I sort of assumed he had a 360 already, though, so there's not much point in mentioning multi-plats.  If it's his first current gen console, however, then that's a great idea.

Get Uncharted 1 + 2.
Or GTA 4.
Or BioShock.

Don't make the mistake of getting MGS4 if you have no idea what's going on in the story.

Sorry about that, didn't know that existed. Once again, thanks, I might end up going with Valkyria Chronicles, Uncharted, and Metal Gear Solid 4 first.

So what???  I played the game more than 5 times just to complete it again and again because it's that good.
 
The game is worth the $60 and now that it's cheaper even better.   Games were always about the single player, online got standard this gen basically and to me it's still a commodity.
 
Why miss the first game which is amazing when the franchise started this gen and he can enjoy both... The characters, story and gameplay is more than enough to spend on the first, then go to the second.  It's very rewarding to play the second knowing and having a certain feeling for the characters and their personalities.

Depending on what genres you're into, there are a lot of great games to recommend. I'm only recommending the PS3 exclusives that I own and play, since I'm assuming you haven't gotten a chance to play some or most of these gems:

(In no particular order)

RPGs:
Valkyria Chronicles
Demon's Souls
I'd even recommend Folklore, it was a launch title but it's still very enjoyable.

Racers:
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift (I'd just get this instead of the original too)

Shooter/Action Games:
Uncharted 1+2
Resistance 1+2
Killzone 2
Warhawk
Metal Gear Solid 4
inFAMOUS

Oh and never forget Little Big Planet! That game is seriously a lot of fun, regardless of what age or gender you are or who you're playing with.

Don't get Call of Duty 4, whatever you do, don't get it.

Reason 1? Because it's the same price as the soon to be MW2.

Reason2? Because Mw2 is coming out in 5 days?

Get Battlefield BadCompany2 in 3 months and I shall love you.
