As the title says, I'm getting a PS3 (250GB) today, but I don't know what game to get first. I want a game that would last a while so I was thinking of getting Borderlands. Uncharted 2 or Killzone 2 also seems like really good choices, but I was worried with how long they would last me. So what do you guys think?

First, Welcome to the the DaRkSyD3. I would like to recommend Uncharted2 as its the best game I personally have ever played. Its just too amazing to be true. However I agree that you should play the first before getting U2 So heres my suggestion. Get Uncharted 1(You can find it for cheap) and Uncharted2 or Uncharted1 and MGS4 which is also amazing.

@OP if u have enough money saved up then go ahead and get both, but if you are limited on cash. then try to spread ur money out on a couple other acclaimed franchises when ur starting out. which is why i recommend (if ur tight on money) get uncharted 2 first. then for your second game, pick another franchise like Killzone 2 and inFamous (both are fantastic games). you'll feel more satisfied with that instead of playing the same kind of game with your new console

Not only that, but you will have stronger feelings for those awesome characters and you will enjoy the great experience of the first game which is one of the most fun this gen.
 
PLaying the first is a treat and I would never forgive myself if I would've played Uncharted 2 before the first.
 
Play the first, enjoy it and then play the second and you will thank us all.

mgs4 is awesome as hell, but be prepared for long cutscenes. i love them but not everyone has the patience. also if u havent played any of the first 3, u WILL be confused.

call of duty 4 isnt a good choice now that modern warfare 2 is coming out in a couple weeks.

well if he wants a long game then he should take MSG4, COD4 only b.c of multiplayer, if he wasnt planning on pre-ordering or getting MW2 then practicing on COD4 is a good idea, people will still play COD4 dont think that MW2 is gonna take over everything...

This man is correct. Maybe add Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction if you liked a good old almost past gen platform gameplay experience. I also suggest picking up Resistance 1 for cheap and Warhawk as it is one of the best multiplayer games for the PS3 and supports online splitscreen, certainly LittleBigPlanet as you can never tire of that because of the community levels.

For digital downloads, PSN exclusive games I can suggest are Superstardust HD for a great twinstick shooter which equals Geometry Wars, Echochrome which is a fantastic mind bending game that twists perspective, has a level editor and a pretty good community. Wipeout HD for some of the best neon, futuristic visuals you can find on a PS3, this supports splitscreen too and is great online. Cuboid for another great exclusive puzzler which uses some great dexterity, rolling a cubiod across tiles to the other side, may sound easy, but certain tiles have different properties, also has a level editor to buy seperately which is worth the price. Flower which is a truely great experience you can get nowhere else, the nearest to a playable video installation whilst still being a game. Burn Zombie Burn, a hectic Smash TV style birds eye view arena shooter which you get out numbered in waves FAST. Trash Panic for a unique 'falling blocks' game where physics and weight are important to destroy and compact junk. Shatter is truely the next gen Arkanoid and a really great block breaking game with an amazing dancey, funky soundtrack with Rez like visuals.

Anyway, those are my suggestions for a really great PS3 gaming experience.

MGS4 (If you have no problem with following the story)
Infamous
Killzone 2
The Show 09 if you like baseball games (you could wait for 2010 release)
Uncharted 2
 
You could also get Ass Creed and MW2...
 
However, if you want only one or 2 games for now then I strongly recommmend Uncharted 1 and then the sequel.
 
Amazing experience you will get with those 2 games.

Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time is an awesome platformer/shooter. Uncharted 2 is amazing too. Others to get are inFAMOUS and MGS4.

Wow, thanks everyone, I'll make sure I bookmark this for future use. I've played Call of Duty 4 a lot before cause I do own a 360, but I'm fed up with having to pay for online play and the thought of having my forth 360 break on me. Once again, thanks everyone, and I can't wait to play on the console I should have gotten in the first place. :D

Edit - And the situation I'm in now is that I'm tight on cash for a few days, but will have more in a week so I needed a game to hold me over for that time.
