I thinnk you guys dont know that your class is not locked to specific weapons - you can all use all the weapons.  You just specialize in certain ones.  I posted the link to the 30min gameplay video and one of the soldiers had a sniper rifle!

So remember you are not locked to a certain weapon

Why would you want to use a weapon that you're not specced for?

That's like those hunters in WoW that run around hitting sh!t with knives.

Actually, I guess if you went all sniper/rogue, then you could use a shotgun if they get too close to you... maybe, but if you specced pistols at all then you wouldn't want to do that.  I wonder if Mordecai has any traps or anything like that.

Who Run Barter Town?!

its not like a reall MMO where you will be super weak if you do that.  Watching the demo(well it was the full game), lilith isn't specialized in any weapon area, but she took out someone playing as roland in a duel and they were both  lvl 6 or 7 - and he even threw out his turret.

The game isnt made to hold you down if you choose one character who isnt specialized in certain weapon areas.  Looking at the skill trees, only mordecai and roland have any specific skills geared towards weapon types.  Also, the more you use one type of weapon, the better your proficiency at that weapon gets - so i guess it pays to stick to a certain type if you want, i'll try to do that anywayz.

Here is the video if you didnt see it

You're quite right. I suppose running and gunning always works in the top down RPG way. It's hard to run and gun with a sniper rifle while you're looking down the scopes, though.

But from what I've read and seen, Mordecai seems to be the only person with a sword as his melee weapon. What's more, I think I saw a skill where his melee damage gets boosted? That alone would make him at least proficient in close quarter battles.

Well, Mordecai is actually remarkably good at taking down enemies... If you spend the 45 points mastering Deadly, Focus, Riotous Remedy, Killer, Hair Trigger, Relentless, Trespass and Lethal Strike... Well, all damage will bypass any shields for one, all guns (whether rifle or handgun) will have increased ammo capacity, you'll get 30% greater chance of landing critical hits, your melee attack will increase by half and you'll also get a 35% chance of landing five times the normal damage with melee hits.

Then there's the sizeable amount of buffs you receive every time you kill an enemy - +40% damage, +30% reload speed, +40% firing rate, 15% health recovery and a 25% chance of landing a Killer Shot that will deal double damage.

In short, keep killing and you'll receive plenty of buffs to keep you alive.

I'm so incredibly hyped for this game it isn't even funny. That being said, though, I'm starting to wonder whether or not Mordecai can handle himself at the end of the day. Sure he'll be great in groups with other diverse characters, but goodness, even Lilith looks like she can kick more ass on her own. His skills aren't bad, in fact they're pretty sweet, but it seems to me if he gets overwhelmed or if there's a lot of enemies running up to him close range (as I've seen them do a lot in videos) then he looks like he'll be in trouble. Am I overanalyzing?

He can handle himself well in close range situations, that's what the handgun is for.  From a distance you can one shot most things your level (as long as it isn't ranked Badass) and use Bloodwing in conjunction with that. You really just have to worry about not getting flanked solo, if they're all coming at you from one direction then you're good. Getting weapons that do elemental damage helps A TON (flaming sniper rifles + flaming pistols = lots of sweet flaming death) for taking out groups quickly. You can shoot one and let the DOT finish him off while you work on the rest.  Something will drop one of those guns soon enough, everything in the game farts guns.

Also, rifle sway is a bitch so if you intend on using the rifles (and I have no idea why you wouldn't) then I'd suggest getting Focus as soon as you can.  It increases accuracy and decreases sway and you need that for those beautiful crit head explodey shots,  which are all of them from what I've seen.

they are annoying and sometimes confusing or tedious. I'd much rather  just earn skills another way. Too human's was hidoues, Final FantasyX's was strange and confusing from what i saw
