In the end, he's no longer with Tecmo, and that's what matters. Whether he was fired or whether he resigned is just pointless detail; his "firing" is posturing from Tecmo ("we're not following your timetable!") and a way to cut off any further possible earnings, since he had announced he was leaving anyway. Now they've lost the face of their company and consequently they're going to lose a lot of press once this is all over: Itagaki is the king of developer trash talk. He kept interest in their properties. There's going to be a struggle there now. It feels the man got a little too big for his boots anyway and had maybe a bit too much influence, to the point where if he has actually been slighted, it was probably a failed attempt to keep him in check by the new management - to remind him that at Tecmo, Tecmo makes the rules, not Itagaki. But it's hard to feel sympathetic for either party, because there is blatant money-grubbing and arrogance on both sides.
