Too long you've been excluded from the American Dream?  What, are we living in the 50's now?  We are finally allowed to live the American Dream... HELLO!?  You are the DEFINITION of the American Dream.  WTF are you talking about you freaking moron.  STFU and just stick to music as being the Black Bono isn't exactly your thing.

To be totally honest Jay-Z is one of the best rappers of all time but he needs to let it go and make room for the new generation. I am sick of seeing his face. He is ugly as hell and has arguably the hottest female singer in the game as his wifey.

I heard a rumor that Jay-Z is planning on running for mayor of New York. What is with celebrities thinking they know anything about politics? I guess if Arnold and Jesse Ventura can make the jump from celebrity to politician Jay-Z can too.

Seriously Jay-Z put the mic down and focus your attention elsewhere.

If the American Dream is the belief in the freedom that allows every person of the United States pursue their goals in life through hard work and bravery, I fail to see how Jay-Z is the personification of the concept. He's just a dude who gets rich off of talking about how wonderful he is with a vaguely catchy beat behind him. Hardly tough work, that.

He's at the point where he's so rich he can say whatever he wants to.  If I was worth about a half billion like he is, I'd say whatever the hell I wanted too.

Based solely on this, what, 30 second speech... Jay Z would be a horrible ANYTHING in politics.

He was a dude who was born and raised in the Ghetto. Got into the street life, selling drugs, gang banging, that sort of thing and turned a negative into a positive. You have to respect that. Most rappers, with exception of the fake ones, lived harsh lives and rose above that and got a record deal and now they make more money in a year then we will EVER see in a lifetime.  So that is the American Dream coming from nothing and making yourself into something. Am I right or wrong?

I thought the american dream was just having a good secure, honest job, a loving beautiful family in a happy beautiful home.

It's not about being rich and banging as many women as you can.

    Who said anything about that?

The American Dream is taking nothing and turning it into something. Mad people from other countries, lets say Mexico, have loving families, a home, and a job. But they want to come to America to live the American Dream. Ask any foreign person when they hear "American Dream" what do they think of, they will tell you money and happiness.  People from other countries have all of those things you stated but they want to come to America to live a BETTER life. They think that America is the land of opportunity, where they can turn nothing into something.

Hell, i'm still trying to achieve the American dream.  I'm living in an apartment with my brother, about to move into another apartment with my brother and another person because I can barely afford living as it is.  Even though I hardly spend any money *that's why I no longer buy video games*, I can barely afford living expenses on a steady paying job salary.  Oh, and BTW, one of my many bosses is black, and ALL of my bosses make over 100k a year.  They are living the American Dream and i'm slowly working towards it.

" All Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness"

Taken from Delcaration of Independence.  Is that not the American Dream?  Is Jay Z telling me that Black people haven't had those rights until Barrack became President?  I have a very hard time believing that.

Land Surveying.  I might have no other choice to change careers soon though, the way the Economy is.  The construction industry is getting hit the hardest right now, and has been for the past 2 years... far before most people were even aware we were in a recession.

You're quite wrong. The American Dream is about achieving your dreams through hard work. Hard Work. The American Dream is about rising up to the challenge, making a life for yourself where you are well respected and have a loving family and a great house with a dog or something like that. The American Dream has nothing to do with rappers, who are and will always be a bunch of people who simply spend all their time talking into a microphone about how amazing and rich they are. The American Dream has nothing to do with how many gangs you've banged, how many drugs you've sold or how many multiplatinum albums you've gained. It certainly has nothing to do with growing up "in the Ghetto" and getting a record contract for being able to "rip into" another person with a poem.

I never said any of that. I was simple explaining to you what Jay-Z went through. You are from England so you know nothing about the American Dream.  hard work can be catergorized in many ways. (This is just an example) You don't think it is hard work selling drugs? You run the risk of getting arrested, robbed, or even killed. Same thing with gang banging. But those 2 things aren't the American Dream at all. I was just saying Jay-Z took nothing and made it into something. I'm sure you have a cozy little life over there in England with your tea and crumpets, so you would not understand the struggle that people in the hood are faced with on a daily basis. They gotta do what they gotta do to survive, and most time they have to resort to illegal activities.  But the American Dream, like I said 100 times, is being able to take nothing and make it into something and the only way to achieve that is through hard work and dedication (regardless what you are putting your mind to legal, or illegal)

I stopped reading there. I'm sorry, how could I ever forget that British folk don't know what it means to have a dream or goal in life?

And what if Jay-Z's goal/dream was to be a rap artist?  He hasn't achieved that dream?   Or is the American dream something completely different?
