This game is so underrated it's a damn shame. Anyone who doubts Guerilla and hasn't tried this needs to do so if you have a PSP or intend to get one. The single player alone is pretty intense and rewarding, the Helghast AI is dastardly good. They'll take cover, roll to dodge your shots, flank you, roll in to get in close proximity in order to smack you down and shoot you and more.

I was in a shootout with a Helghast troop and he was too far for me to get a lock so I moved around to another crate to hide behind and reload. This bastard moved from his position out of the screen and came from behind me and punched me in the back of the head. Also, have fun trying to kill 3 of them out in the open until you have enough money for weapons and points for skills.

That's another bonus, after each chapter you get a set of challenge missions to unlock so you get points to buy skills for your character, and there's 3 medals (Bronze, Silver, Gold) for all stages and challenge missions. Money is obtained from finding suitcases filled with Vektan (the coolest name for money ever), new weapons are obtained and upgraded, people die, life goes on, and we all get tacos.

Also GG saw fit to add a free patch to the game that gave you a new chapter, 2 new multiplayer maps, and online multiplayer. Online is surprisingly good, DrPirate, my brother, and myself played for a while the other night and there were a ton of people who joined our game after I killed the password. The isometric perspective and primarily close quarter maps provide for a lot of carnage considering no one can hide anywhere.

Funny enough it's a portable game and it has pretty much all the features the console MP games and some a few of them don't. You have your friendlist, the messaging system, voice chat, invites, 1 button join to your friend's games, and host migration midmatch to boot.

I'm talking about it because I just started playing it again and I hadn't touched the MP until three days ago and I forgot how good the single player game was. This actually got me psyched for KZ2 and I believe GG can deliver now, they seemingly got over some people's issues with the original KZ on a PORTABLE game. Now they just need to fix the US servers so our stats can update and I can get more characters. ..

By far one of the best games on the PSP.  I can't tell you how many planes I've nearly missed while playing that fkn game....

The first Killzone wasn't that bad to me, but this one redeems any issues one would have had with the first EASILY.

Let me just add to this:

They improved the voice acting and quality of the helghast soldiers immensely. The music is as good as the first one and the gameplay is actually very compelling. The challenges are rewarding, and everything about this game is solid.

They take art direction to a whole new level and it's a PSP game. They brought the Helghast army into a new light making them seem almost demonic in their ways. The multitude of Helghan soldier designs is awesome. Weapons are satisfying to use and unique in terms of how their design and functionality influences your style, and conversely, gives you a certain edge depending on the type of player you are. As the first Killzone, the levels are very varied. Some are dark, concrete looking city scapes, others are green forests. In tradition of this, it is reasonable to expect Killzone 2's environments to cover almost every type of landscape on Earth, and even let their imaginations run wild since the planet Helghan is obviously and rhetorically, not Earth.

The infrastructure mode is also quite incredible. I freaked out myself when I saw it was fleshed out so nicely. It was actually easier to join friends in Killzone Liberation than it is to join a GT5 game, or a Warhawk match with friends. The way some maps are set up, you have these hot points where it seems like chaos, but it's just soo much fun to participate. In a game with Skerj, commonly, everyone spawned on the side of a bridge, and what went on in the middle was Omaha beach with 8 players. Again, as I said, it was chaotic, but you also felt completely in control. The only mismanagement came from players because there were so many targets to shoot at so you tried to shoot at everyone. Oh yeah, the game supports VOICE CHAT (LOL), honestly, this game's online mode just does everything 100% completely right.

The game also has coop which is why I'm still skeptical about coop not coming at launch no matter what the sources say. I know for a fact GG are huge fans of coop.

There's tons to like about this game. I didn't mention the story, cover system, squad AI and orders, the bonus missions, the voice acting NOT sucking in the cutscenes, the vehicle based gameplay levels and how well they play, the coop campaign features, the online leaderboards (FOR A PSP GAME!!!), the connectivity with killzone.com where you can retrieve things you've unlocked for getting achievements (yes, this is BEFORE the 360). etc, etc, etc.

Pirate speaks the truth and that bridge was one of the most brutal battles ever, with both teams repeatedly charging at each other from opposite sides of the narrow bridge. I think about 40 deaths went on there over the course of about 2 minutes with all the grenades that were thrown coupled with the Bowgun, the Rocket Launcher, and the Flamethrower as well as the standard weapons.

I played the demo on my psp it was pretty nice but never got around to getting the full game. A psp game and a PS3 game are two completely different ball parks though. Higher budget and more technology means they have to try really hard to impress.

Yes, and no. Metal Gear: Portable Ops, God of War, Crisis Core, GTA:LCS, Wipeout Pulse, and quite a few more stand up to console games easily.

It is fundamentally the same gameplay just a different perspective. Put the camera inside the person's face on a 3rd person shooter and what do you get?

I totally agree. The portable consoles show that you don't need 1080p to make brilliant games. Anyone who thinks otherwise are idiots. All of the games you listed *points particularly at Crisis Core* are easily superior to 90% of PS3 games. Like I said in another thread, if they can make prequels as touching and nostalgia infused as Crisis Core for a home console, you'll probably have one of the best games on the planet.
