How did you like the game. I mean we hear its the best game ever from here and there from those of us who have been following and loving the series since MGS1. I feel its the best game this gen so far but i am curious to know if the non fanatics liks us enjoyed it enough to make the statement of best game this gen. I won't say best game of all time because i think that is stretching it too far but i really cannot think of a game that is better than MGS4. That is why i feel its best game this gen

for my taste, it is the best game I've ever played, and I wouldn't consider myself an MGS fanatic as I never finished MGS1 or ever played 2 or 3 (but am going to)

What if you haven't played that many games?

I don't know what constitutes a fanatic. I'm a fan of the series so my opinion is biased as hell, though.

I thought MGS 1 sucked, and so did MGS 2. Because of the atrocious gameplay.  I still bared through it because of the story. I bought MGS4 on the sole reeason that the gameplay foundation was improved, which it did. MGS4 is by far the best iteration. Without a doubt. Drebin and akiba are godly funny.

i think mgs 4 boss battles are pretty weak compared to MGS 3 and MGS 1
the best game for this gen is gonna be team ico's new game IMO

hey anyone notice something weird on mgs4's metacritics
they put an 80 for gamecritic's review, as far as i know gamecritics didn't give any score on its mgs 4 review

conspiracy.... mmmhh

It seems all the hard core MGS fans at least got a great experience from MGS4 and I think it's great.

In my opinion(I'm not a big fan of MGS series).

I think MGS has one of the best emotional story and I don't care the long cut scenes. But some of the cut scenes were like dull flash movies and some were unnecessary. The short cut scenes during the gameplays especially killed the pace of gameplay. I think there are many other ways to tell & drive a story through playing the game. And the dialogue, I don't know the English version since I played Japanese version but dialogue were not good. Some of the dialogues were so explanatory and repetitive. But these were small problem. The worst part to me was the character animations in gameplay. The character motions were so weird and moved like puppet or clay anime.

I failed to find any fun in MGS4 but it's great because Kojima always said he created a game for hard core fans and all the hard core MGS fans says MGS4 is the game. He got a big success.

Snake animations were on point. Animations for guards/PMC's have always been crap in MGS games...this one is a lot better though.

I do agree 100% that boss battles were the worst in the series. Barely no strategy and they all did the same thing after you got them out of their shell, it was just lame. Its still better than most boss battles in games but not as unique as the others.

I appreciate the series but i woudlnt call myself a fanatic

I bought my Psone very late in the consoles lifespan as i was a nintendo fanboy back then so i missed the inital mgs hype. However i can remember playing the mgs1 demo clear as day and being blown away by how amazing it was. Got it in a showbag at one years royal easter show , with a Official playstation magazine CD wallet which i now use to store my 360 games in!  That said i was young and had no money back then so i didnt ever purchase the original full game.

I bought my PS2 largely for MGS2 and  gran turismo 3, and i liked the game but i lent it to a friend years ago and havent played it since so the story isnt really fresh in my mind. i just remember how good the tanker looked at the time and the final sword fight boss battle as well as how trippy and nonsensical the story got towards the end.

After that i got into PC gaming so i didnt really play much of the PS2 library from that point on bar some party games and gt5, as well as the gta series games. I remember one of my buddies buying the game and he showed it to me but i never got around to buying it because i was over ps2 quality graphics at that point.

I Bought mgs3 substance in a pre owned bin a few weeks ago and while i like the game i wouldnt want to have payed full price for it. It looks ugly, muddy brown and the camoflauge and stamina system is a pain in the arse.  I also feel the controls are clunky but i guess all previous mgs games have shared that, it just feels more noticeable in this version.
I like the snake eater theme though, very james bondesque and Major Tom is a good character. I havent yet finished the game yet so maybe my impressions so far have been harsh but thats how i feel.

I dont own a ps3 and given the way sony treats PAL gamers i dont see myself picking one up for a while but if i do MGS4 will certainly be on my shopping list. it certainly does look impressive and i can appreaciate good cut scenes. and i might even be rewarded for waiting with a substance style re release so im in no rush to grab the game right now. Perhaps a christmas price drop and PAL 80gb will change my mind.

I am probably the only person in this entire forum with zero MGS experience, MGS4 is my first intro to the series and as of ACT 4, it seems like a great game with some issues but far from being the best game ever. Only a fanboy make such a statment. The plot and themes of the Metal Gear universe is too cheesy and convoluted for my taste, and to make matters worst in cutscene after cutscene, Kojima insists on pushing his boring Japanese pacifistic views down my throat. That more than anything this is what I hate most about MGS4. Get your god damn politics out of my murder sim please, k thx bye.

From a gameplay perspective I'm loving it, the balance between gunplay and stealth is just right with all kind of gameplay mechanics throw in. I love how the various acts mix things up to keep the game fresh. Splinter Cell wish it could be this deep.  From a techincal standpoint this game is quite an achievement. The character modeling is astounding with the skin textures to match, all it really need is Heavenly Sword's facial animations to complete the picture.

Too bad MGO isn't more complete and polished, because if it could push CoD 4 out of it's spot then yes, MGS4 would be the best game ever.

Wait... please don't tell me you're implying that COD4 is the best game ever made.

Thank god, I was a little concerned there.

Although, I don't think COD4's online mode is really that good at all, it's so repetitive and boring. Yes, SOCOM is far better.

it is my first time playing a Metal Gear, didn't know anything about previous ones going inot this one. But I like it alot, I personally wouldn't call it the best game I ever played, simply because I'm not big on stealth games. It is however, a huge lead from any other games I've played as far as story and game play....graphics are amazing as well. I'm really loving it, I just started act 4 last night and I'm getting more caught up in it as I go. Even my fiance (who don't ususlly like video games) was watching me play and helping me spot bad guys. So to sum it up, yes its technically the best game I've played so far, not my personal favorite though, as stealth games aren't my cup of tea and I'm not familliar with the previous stories.

personally - not the best game I've played
technically - is the best game I've played

make sense?

As a non fanatic I felt that it was a good game. That is all.
I felt like I had played much better games this gen than mgs 4. Hell I was done playing the game forever once I beat it and I really knew I was done with it when I turned on the joke of a game that is mgo.

It's a good game but best evar?  Not really.  I personally like sneaking around in heavily guarded facilities better it seems.  The new stuff and the look is rather impressive but it's just missing that little something imho.

I like MGS4. It was serious, it was funny. It brought a lot together and did finish things for everyone who followed the games.

The cinamatics was good, it was interactive, the game play was solid. It was wonderful.

He was the person that said mgs4 had broken controllers. It was the most awesome moment, when I went on rage mode, and called out his bullshit. That was pretty much the worst stealth trolling I've ever seen. Probably pissed him off thouhg.
