I wouldn't overhype myself on these games, as they have been ridiculously over hyped for you to begin with. I sure hope KZ2 in particular is great, as it would seem like so much work, time, and hype for nothing. Yes, it looks good. But will it play good? Will there be any innovation? Will it be more than just a shooter with great atmosphere, graphics, sound...but way too obvious, done a million times gameplay? Will the online, which has been mentioned zero, be any good? Will this break any mold or just be an average shooter with a cinematic vibe? Very possible. Don't over hype or over hope. Resistance 2, it's MP is being way too overhyped. R1 had 40 players. Throwing in 20 more you won't even see is really not that amazing. It's the overhyping of an idea. It's being romanticized way too much. I'm more interested if the campaign will recieve great improvements, that's what really needs the improvement. I'm a fan of R1, but the reason anyone who ever liked that game, was because it looked like a launch title (which forgives it's faults) with a lot of, keyword: potential. But to answer, do these games give large competition to 'other shooters?' Not really. I'm not a Gears of War fan, but these games don't stand a chance. GOW is a pop culture mainstream game in the world of shooters, with a big established name and fanbase. Resistance does to a smaller degree, it had half the sales of GOW. And KZ2/Guerilla has a lot to prove over KZ1, and now, more than they can ever live up to given the insane hype over it. GOW2 will likely outsell both these games combined. I'm making that as an educated guess, as despite not being an Xbox 360 fan, I'm not a fanboi either. (I just play one on TV.) But, with that aside, if they do manage to be solid, and well rated games, it will at least open the door for the Playstation franchise as having another finger dipped in to another genre in which it will have noteable exclusive games in. But R2 and K2 will still be games that are a far cry from mass success to the likes of Halo or Gears. Sony just doesn't have a shooter with the right appealing characters, innovation, look, game titles even, and so forth with the shooter genre. It's too bad Killzone wasn't a great game that broke the mold, because Killzone, I think, is actually a cool, simple title for marketing. A little too violent maybe, despite that GOW, the game, is more violent. The title 'Gears of War' works. As does 'Halo' An individual may find things they like a lot more in the Resistance and Killzone games, but they don't have all the right things combined to make them 'mainstream' hits. I just don't see it happening with these games. I also don't care. I just need ME to like them. Not millions of annoying 12 year old Halo/Gears fans on the internet.
