I'd like to know if you believe or should I say, "b3li3v3," that Resistance 2 and KILLZONE II will effectively put the PlayStation 3 in the position of being the clear shooter's choice for consoles come Fall 2008 and Early Winter 2009?  These two game are destined to cast a large shadow over the competition -- and speaking of the competition, will these games make their ways to MLG status and why or why not?  Does it matter?

It's sad to say but I find myself drifting off every day thinking what it will be like to roam the battlefield once again with my clan(s) in the KILLZONE world.  It will truly be a surreal experience after 4 years and after all of the "hyped to Heaven" articles, to sit down with this game and see it / feel it for the first time.  For me, Resistance is a party favorite at my house the instant I tore off the shrink wrap, and after the excellent debut of part 1, less than 2 years ago I thave no doubts Insomniac will outdo themselves once again with the follow up to this epic series and storyline.  Templar, Rico, Nathan Hale, Solar Visari and the Chimera are all names that swirl in my head like business contacts or client business cards.

With less than 4 months to go for Resisitance 2 and a mere 7 (which will fly by) for the elaphantine KILLZONE II, my real question is where in the world will I find the time that these gems will surely demand?

LOL - yeah dude.  I've been working non-stop, but it's always good to come back where my real friends are!    The PlayStation 3 is steam rollin' yeah?  God I can't wait to start gaming again, but I'm working hard now - so I can play hard later.  lol

Destined? Reminds me of what people were saying 6 months before the first Resistance and the first Killzone were released. Great games in their own respect, but when compared to the competition...

They are both games with a lot of potential and really have no where to go but up. I think we should just let them be and not superhype them this early.

I wouldn't overhype myself on these games, as they have been ridiculously over hyped for you to begin with.

I sure hope KZ2 in particular is great, as it would seem like so much work, time, and hype for nothing. Yes, it looks good. But will it play good? Will there be any innovation? Will it be more than just a shooter with great atmosphere, graphics, sound...but way too obvious, done a million times gameplay? Will the online, which has been mentioned zero, be any good? Will this break any mold or just be an average shooter with a cinematic vibe? Very possible. Don't over hype or over hope.

Resistance 2, it's MP is being way too overhyped. R1 had 40 players. Throwing in 20 more you won't even see is really not that amazing. It's the overhyping of an idea. It's being romanticized way too much. I'm more interested if the campaign will recieve great improvements, that's what really needs the improvement. I'm a fan of R1, but the reason anyone who ever liked that game, was because it looked like a launch title (which forgives it's faults) with a lot of, keyword: potential.

But to answer, do these games give large competition to 'other shooters?' Not really. I'm not a Gears of War fan, but these games don't stand a chance. GOW is a pop culture mainstream game in the world of shooters, with a big established name and fanbase. Resistance does to a smaller degree, it had half the sales of GOW. And KZ2/Guerilla has a lot to prove over KZ1, and now, more than they can ever live up to given the insane hype over it. GOW2 will likely outsell both these games combined. I'm making that as an educated guess, as despite not being an Xbox 360 fan, I'm not a fanboi either. (I just play one on TV.)

But, with that aside, if they do manage to be solid, and well rated games, it will at least open the door for the Playstation franchise as having another finger dipped in to another genre in which it will have noteable exclusive games in. But R2 and K2 will still be games that are a far cry from mass success to the likes of Halo or Gears. Sony just doesn't have a shooter with the right appealing characters, innovation, look, game titles even, and so forth with the shooter genre. It's too bad Killzone wasn't a great game that broke the mold, because Killzone, I think, is actually a cool, simple title for marketing. A little too violent maybe, despite that GOW, the game, is more violent. The title 'Gears of War' works. As does 'Halo'

An individual may find things they like a lot more in the Resistance and Killzone games, but they don't have all the right things combined to make them 'mainstream' hits. I just don't see it happening with these games. I also don't care. I just need ME to like them. Not millions of annoying 12 year old Halo/Gears fans on the internet.

Well I can tell you one thing for sure by bringing all theese shooters on the ps3 that is sonys intention. Sony wants the playstation brand to be assosiated with shooting games just like the xbox brand is. Maybe they are trying to appeal to the western gaming audience. Will they succed ? who knows I very much doubt it though. So long as there are new halos being annouced sonys efforts might prove futile.

I just hope Killzone 2 is good. I don't care for Resistance at this point.

I'm a shooter fan but I'm getting tired of the blandness in the genre.

That's what I'm saying Toughname. When you look at the competition around the same time, this is like a Lennox Lewis classic double pump combo.  Sure Gears will be out and it will be a fun game and great follow up no doubt, but for PS3 owners these two games coming out the way they are is like being presented with a mile long, purple kush doobie from the secretary of the interior.

Well they sure aren't trying to corner the rpg market right now are they?

Try not to double post within 15 minutes. I just copied and pasted your consecutive post here. Thanks.

I think killzone 2 will end up being a very solid shooter I hope its good. I think Resistance 2 will once again get overlooked especially if it releases around the same time as Gears2.

Maddens rpgs are a far too important genre for Sony to let go. Sony has to start paying money and get some rpgs out the door before MS buys them all. They still have time so im sure they will bring some good ones out to the market.

Yeah Snoop it's been a while.  Oh WarHawk for me was like religion huh  ?  Boy oh boy what a game.....

...a/w I'm a total WarHawk noob now that I haven't played in forever.  I'm just catching a break at work and hanging out in my favorite place.  A friend of mine told me that a lot of people were looking for me online, and I'd like to get on just to banner that I'm on a work marathon right no - lol, but oh well -- I'll rely on you guys to spread the word if need be. It's a bit of a chore to hook up the PS3 in a hotel room and all.

Im not sure about Killzone (dont know how it plays)...but it looks like Cod4, and Cod4 will never make MLG. Theres just too many uncertainties, while playing the game. Perks ingame and pregame, hit detection, random damage models, things of that nature....which make the game unbalanced. Not saying Killzone will have this....im basing the gameplay type beside Cod.

In Resistance's case...its a definte, no. The multiplayer is just everywhere...and its not competetive at all.

I dont think it matters for the most part. Just as long as they can still make a fun game. Although competetiveness plays a big roll, in multiplayer....see Halo.

Yeah it has been a while.

One thing Mr tretton pointed on was the multiplayer for resistance. I'm wondering whats going to happen with so many players on at once with teamwork and all. I mean if I'm playing with friends and people from n4g its not an issue, but im wondering if people will be running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Of course i could just play smaller games though I would still play the 60 player games when i want a big battle of course.

Yeah I know socom. It would be really asinine for them to let go of rpg's which won't happen.  It's just kind of exciting to see them pushing the PlayStation brand more toward a shooter's console, which historically takes a bit getting used to for me.  It's just that I haven't seen them put this much faith in a shooter before since they came out and dubbed some game "the Halo Killer" and put an Amsterdam studio in the middle of the crossfire -- no pun intended!

Hey Maddens, does the LE of Killzone 2 comes with a leather-clad, hot chick with great cleavage just like in the picture?  If it does, $100 for a LE sounds like a mighty good deal!
