My friends having a bizarre problem with his DVD ROM Drive - Apr.-24th-2008 3:40:12

Status: offline 		My friend wants to install Vista (god know why), anyway way during boot-up of his PC, he can open his DVD ROM, but can't close it unless he does manually, when he does that the loading light is constant;y on untill XP starts, from then on he has NO other problems with the drive or computer in general.
Any ideas?

Status: offline 		So why can't he install Vista? Just have the disc in there and have the computer boot from disc via bios page. Perhaps the computer senses the vista and is revolting?

Status: offline 		He's tryed that as the first email said. he also tryed his XP recovery disc with no joy either.

I'm not sure if it's possible to boot up with a virtual drive with vista mounted?

Status: offline 		i'd try switching your IDE channel that connects to the drive around on your mainboard and also make sure the jumper on the drive is set correctly. Wouldnt hurt to switch for another power plug on the PSU either, not sure if this'll work but its worth a go

Status: offline 		Perhaps it's an old DVD-ROM drive.

Either way since it's giving him problems, he could prolly pick one up super cheap, given that he's shelled out for vista. HD-DVD Drives should be super cheap for PCs.

did he make sure the jumper is set correctly (master/slave)?
