Well I finally got my PS3 today and I went home all happy and what not to plug it in to my surprise for some reason I didn't get any video first I thought the PS3 was not on (sorry I am already used to hearing the jet engine of my 360 to know its on so the PS3 silence was disturbing) but after plugging in the composite cables I found that it was on but every time I want to use the video thru HDMI I get no video

I was reading in forums people having similar problems with a huge amount of different TVs and brands of HDMI cables and most of the "solutions" were confusing or poorly explained so I wanted to know if some one here knew to the point with a clear explanation how to fix this

If you have composite cables hooked on your PS3 to your HDTV and you want to change it to HDMI cable you have to hold the PS3 button up until it makes a beeping sound and the green light flashes while having the external input of HD set up on your tv. (At least that's how mnie worked)

Reset the console. If you have the hdmi connected to your ps3 and hdtv it should ask you if you want to switch it. But then again that was added via firmware update. You might have to download a firmware for that. You can do it manually by going to settings then display settings you can just follow the game instructions from there

Ok let me if I get this straight I have to have my PS3 hooked on HDMI and then press and hold the power button and till it beeps? that is suppose to give me the video?

do I have to change the video input from the video settings too? (or something related ot that area? after before?)

btw way i need to get a longer HDMI cable >.>

Have the system off with the red light on the front. Have your PS3 hooked up to your TV through HDMI and have your TV video on HDMI. Then hold down the on button on the PS3 until it beeps and blinks. The video should come up on your tv and ask you some questions. If this does not happen, then I don't know what to tell you.

Yeah, sonarus and storm are spot on. While your PS3 is on standby, make sure you have the HDMI cable plugged in, then hold the power for about 5 seconds, and you should see a picture. Then, just follow the instructions to get the PS3 displaying at whatever resolution your TV supports.

Doesn't seem to be working guys I already tried it and the only thing I was left with was a black screen and even worse I had no video not even from the composite (which freaked me out O.o) but after doing the same beep thing again I got my video back for composite but still no HDMI T.T

yeah as soon as I turned the thing on there was that message saying I should update (2.20) and let me tell you that think took AGES I actually had to set the TV to dual view to watch both Law and Order and seeing how it updates XD

That is weird man. Well after doing the latest firmware update and it still not working, I would call Sony.

Ive confirm it it has something to do with the whole TV-> HDMI-> PS3 connection cuz I plugged it into my monitor and it works flawless and the message that it was mentioned here asking me about the settings appeared

The PS3 looks SO nice on HD T.T
...now I need to find out how to output sound from the monitor -_-

Something like this happened to me about 2 months ago. For some reason my video stopped working throught the HDMI but it would work through Component. It crapped out on me during an COD4 update I was installing. Sony just had me send in my PS3 for a new one.

It doesn't sound like this is what happened with yours, but who knows? Maybe they will send you a new PS3 to correct it

honestly just take it back for another one it'll take no time, it shouldnt be giving you these problems sounds like a dud

I am gonna test it in a friends house tomorrow to confirm if there is a problem with the PS3 or not cuz after the successful test with the monitor I am starting to believe its the TV (reading forums some people have commented similar things were certain TVs even Sony ones simply wont display over HDMI and some people even say that the HDMI started working days or weeks later >.>)

btw any idea anyone on how to get sound while its plugged to the monitor?

If the monitor doesn't have speakers then welcome to my problems.

I use an old SD TV to output my sound, but if you've got speakers that support component or optical output then they should work. Let us know how it turns out.

Try plugging out the composite and with the hdmi hooked up to your PS3. Have it on standby(red) hold the reset indicator till you hear the bleep. Also make sure your t.v is on its HDMI source. I think if you have 2 video plugs in it might be confusing your playstation.
