Nobody is approving stories - Feb.-14th-2008 10:32:53

Status: offline 		I've noticed a common trend in the pending section. The only stories that get approved quickly is the PS3 or flaming news. There are a lot of good news stories that sit in the pending section for sometimes 10 hours or more. People are approving and reporting based on their own personal preference.

Mobile news, Dev, Wii, Tech, Industry, and PC news take forever to get approved even if they are good stories. Just not "Hot" stories.

Perhaps the approval points should score higher than just 4 to get the good stories circulating faster.

I also think this has a lot to do with the managing score no longer contributing to the monthly contest. Going through all the stories and checking for duplicates etc is a lot of work. Just a theory.

Status: online 		I 100% agree, its getting rediculas that there are 30+stories waiting for approval just beacuse they are not rumors,sales or no more exclusive game news.

there are very good articles just waiting in there for people to read but cant cos no 1 is approving, i do call for top contributers to get a higher approval level of 4.

Status: online 		I have an idea (hope admins see this and make an opinion)

what if top contributers can approve a story fully, it then goes to a different cue that only the top people can see then another contributer can check it over again to make sure there is no problem and they approve it again. so in other words it takes to top contributers approval for one story, keep the old system to of course but also add this, stories could get approved a lot faster.

I do not personally care about managing score. That was just a theory. Perhaps you are right and people are just lazy.

It just seems like the vast majority of people just approve stories because "they like them," not bc they are good stories.

If you post a flaming story that is definately a duplicate it will be approved in seconds even with reports. But if you post legit news about PC, Dev, etc. it will sometimes sit in pending for hours.

Lazy indeed. Or too busy submitting their own. Everyone posting in this thread as of now are usually approving/reporting regularly though. Besides me...but I haven't been around much lately.

Status: online 		I do need to get better about spending time in the pending section, but I always make sure to approve/report 2 stories for every 1 that I submit. Otherwise, I think MrSwede's right, people get too caught up in their own submissions.

Only Bloodmask and timmyp53 (among the highest ranks) approves, and gives movement to the secction. Others only report, then the op fixes the report, and they ignore the history...nice way to put the people down

I think that's only some people.  I always try to stay tuned to a story I've reported (and I only report if I'm the first to catch the glitch, everyone should stop cluttering up submissions with multiple reports of the same problem).  Bloodmask and timmyp53 are allstars for going through the pending section as much as they do.  As I said, I always approve at least twice as much as I submit, I do have time constraints (you know, what with the day job).   and people that don't approve stories b/c they disagree with the content are just foolish.

I dunno Ive had a few contributors take the time to pm me and help to fix my news post so it can get approved. Lots of good guys here some of them might even be fanboys but they still do the right thing. The real problem I think is that its so much work to approve stories if your doing it right and ya lots of ppl would rather spread fud than approve a legit stories. Still works for the most part sure the site ends up favoring the flame bait and stuff but the way it works with the score the more heat an article draws the better the odds of winning...
Personally I think they should drop the amount of approves needed to 5.... bet more stuff would get published that way. That and maybe a negative point system for reporting a story on account of personal preference and so on...

I guess anything can be exploited much like the comments section in the end the only real solution might be moderation :(

How long did it take for you to figure that out? I've noticed that even long before I decide to become a member of this site.
