Wtf, i thought Co-op was a separate mode . .

In DS2, we had online co-op/VS.

In DS3, they plan on doing bro-op. Gears of war style.

really going to kill the atmosphere.

You know, this gen has made me realize I really love silent protagonists.

Hale in R:FoM never said a word, i liked that.
"Hero" in DQ8 never said a word.

Then we have bro-op games like Gears where every word is about brofest.. I was like -_-

This.

I really loved how 'Issac' spoke like 10/12 times in Dead Space, sadly they changed that in Dead Space 2. I was just on the 2nd chapter when i first complained about him speaking too much.

Speaking less really added extra "upmh" to the whole Dead Space experience.

Exactly, actions speak louder than words. When you let the player "fill in" the emotion of the character, it's much more badass than having the character play out an emotion "YOU SON OF A BITCH, YOU KILLED KENNY. I'MMA MOFO KILL YO FAMILY" is not something I'd say.. -_-
Let me fill in what I wanna fill in, please?

Granted this doesn't work for all games, but when it works, you get a super badass feeling outta it.

Why can't companies just do a spin-off series if they want to implement a totally different way to play? It's like Resident Evil going from survival horror to action movie mode, a spin-off series would have done the job just fine instead of getting rid of what made the franchise popular in the first place.

Too logical, every installment must sell 5million copies or it's a flop.

Also, am I the only one that LIKES RE being stop and shoot? It really keeps you on your feet.

Definitely not, to this day I LOVE those classic "tank" Resident Evil controls. Not being able to strafe or backflip your way out of a close encounter makes even a small fight intense.

As far as survival horror goes I don't think we'll ever get a better game than the Resident Evil remake on gamecube.

haha goodie.. Because everyone complained and complained how you can't move and shoot about RE5. I don't think they gave the game a chance. The game was BUILT around that mechanic, you never felt that it was a cheap way of holding you back.
We already have tons of zombie games like that... and RE:Operation Raccoon City didn't turn out too good w/ that mechanic.

I've been replaying RE5, and I love it. I know it's not survival horror, but the game plays perfectly and is fun as hell to co-op in.

If they kept the control system and actually did a 'horror' theme instead of L4D style zombie slaughter fest, I think it'd turn out well.

I never really found Dead Space as a series all that scary, I love the games but they always had more of an action slant to me. Though after seeing the E3 demo co-op is definitely going to kill that somewhat suspenseful atmosphere it had. But EA has to sell 5 million copies or Dead Space can't exist viably as a franchise.../s

The games industry is turning more and more into the movie industry as the years pass. Where all it is sequels, reboots, and known quantities that are going to make millions of dollars.

Also I loved the RE tank controls, it was always thrilling trying to get away from zombies/ganados(sp?), with limited movement.

Dead Space was one of the last beacons of hope the survival horror genre had left. It never really was all that scary to begin with but it at least put forth effort (the first one at least) unlike certain other franchises.

Now Dead Space 3 is just another mindless cover shooter with co-op attached at the hip. I'll torrent it just like I torrented Dead Space 2. I have absolutely no hope for the future of video games because as each year passes each genre bleeds into each other more and more.

We'll always have one or two studios that care about the gamer and that will want to push a genre in a new direction but it'll never catch on. For the last few years and from here on out 95% of FPSs will be Call of Duty clones and 95% of third person shooters will be Gears of War clones.

Survival horror as a genre is dead and I don't see it coming back in any meaningful way anytime soon.

sledgehammer made ds1. then i think ea wanted more action. so they fired that one guy. cant remember his name. i was totally into dead space 1, watching dev videos behind the scenes. they did really cool stuff.  ds2 was just fudged up, now this ds3 is like an activision title.
