I'm gunna say...around Killzone time the PS3 will surpass the 360. March latest.

But will the Wii ever slow down? Not even going to speculate on that one.

Oh I forgot about Gears...okay...end of summer

And yeah sonarus I hope the Wii doesn't keep selling, for the good of gaming humanity. But Nintendo seems to know exactly what their doing and are in full control.

the ps3 will surpass the 360 install base by holidays 2009.
but the point is that ms wants to gain more market share and also attain some of the ps2 exclusives which they are doing.

Sooner or later, they will run out of gimmicks to throw at the wii. I think wii fit is their last big thing. The consoles also need to drop price to wii range quickly. The wii being the cheapest system gives them an additional edge. They appeal strongly to the casual audience and nintendo and msoft need to recognize this. The ps eye for example could have so many cheap casual games. I'm surprised sony isn't jumping on it. One thing nintendo did is isolate the hardcore gamer. Honestly i don't really see myself buying a nintendo console ever again.

As long as the wii keeps coming out with consumer friendly products like wii fit they will continue to dominate. If they were smart they would come out with a companion game for wii fit a cooking game with actual healthy recipes. Im pretty sure the wii will outsell the ps2 when its all over.

The only reason wii sales are so high is becuase it is a cheap system. Gameplay is alrigt I guess but graphics are horrible. Not to mention the injuries my brother tore up his shoulder playing wii.

I wouldn't say nintendo has completely isolated the hardcore gamer.  No matter what anyone says, zelda, mario and metroid are some of the staples of video games.  Hardcore players were playing mario kart and mario party long before the wii was even announced, too.

Now third party?  Wii still has crap.  And I haven't really see a multiplatform game done right on the Wii yet.  Maybe the Force Unleashed will do something with the motion control, but I'm not betting on it.

Back to topic, unless the ps3 starts coming out with more big name exclusives (like MGS4), it's going to get harder and harder for them to overtake the 360.  There is a boost right now, yes, and it will probably continue once Metal Gear comes out, but Microsoft has some really good games going for itself.  Eh, either way, it doesn't matter.  As long as all three systems are doing good, the competition keeps giving us better and better games.

Ya and somethings odd about these numbers, they were saying 17 million at the end of last year, 19 million sold at their Quater meeting 2 weeks ago, Sony said they had sold 10 million last week, and said hey had surpassed the 360 in Europe while MS says they still lead.

Most of the people that want Gears 2 already have a 360 (since it's a sequel and all, why would people bother on not playing the first one?) so I REALLY doubt it'll push consoles that much.

Same goes for Resistance 2.

lets get serious; the main reason why MS took the lead (and has held on in NA) is because you can buy a 360 for less money than a PS3.  They have good games on the 360, so the cheaper price will draw more people to it than the PS3.  It's the same reason why the Wii has done so well.  It has some good games as well, and is a lot cheaper than the PS3.  All this talk about fanboyism and everything will go away if the PS3 was cheaper.  If it dropped down to the price of the 360, or have a model cheaper than most 360's, then many of them will shut up, and go buy a PS3.

Eventually, Sony will cut the prices, because everything always gets cut.  We'll se how it affects the gaming world.  There are still millions of PS2 owners who have not made the jump, and logically, it would make sense that they are waiting for a cheaper PS3

You can practically guarantee the PS3 will overtake the 360 (in sales numbers) in the future simply because of it's estimated 10 year life-span. (It would be difficult for it not to if MS isn't making & distributing any more 360's) but Microsoft may end up making more money and unfortunately therefore more successful in the long run because who says their next console won't sell just as good as the 360?

Let's be honest here...if new game releases were frozen and both consoles had the exact same games they do now...the PS3 would still outsell the 360. I think there's little doubt which console is better, but the PS3 has Sony's name behind it and the experience...among other things.

For the 360 I think 40 million is an honest goal to aim for...the longer they're in the market the more respectable they become. Even though we have no idea, IF Microsoft continues to produce better games it's inevitable that it one day wins the console war.

I'm guessing that won't be for a few generations though.
