Hey I'm new, and I  only signed on cause I didn't know where else to go for answers, If this is inappropriate please accept my apology. But I just wanted to ask if anyone has been having a problem when watching a movie about 5  minutes into the moive the fan kicks on and stays on the whole time, does this happen with anyone elses ps3. It's in an open cabinet with the front and back open, but not the sides. If this the wrong area to ask this question please direct me where to go, if this is right can somebody please help with this question.

Thank You, All
Mark

All the sides must be at least 10 CM from any object. Wrong section too. Try asking in the PS3 hardware section.

Mine does it too. It never used to make noise when I first got it. The fans would turn on, but they were very silent. Unfortunately as the fans get dusty they start to make more noise. Try blowing it out with a can of air or use your vaccum on it. If you have the 40 gig model you can do the fan test to clean them off.

Oh and welcome to the forums.

I think it depends on what software is in the system. I remember GTA4 kick starting the fans really early because the PS3 had to access all the cached information from the harddrive to game (or something like that). So if you are watching a movie with a lot of info inside the disc that may be your situation.

NO! I advise he doesnt. He's the only one that can see his IP. Besides when I look at it the IP is wrong. back on track, just use a vacuum and it might help.

Lol. He's not going to hack you. It's just a stupid sign. It displays everyone's ip info, browser and OS. It's not that hard to obtain someone's ip address. Using it is the hard part. Besides if he was going to "hack" anyone using a big sign that displays all their info is a bad first step.
I think if you follow the link on his sig. you can get your own ip sign.

Edit: Whoa, relax dude. breakfast is just messing with you.

Second edit: Take a look at this if you're really concerned.

Click on one of the mods or admins names. Id say Catastrophe would be the best.

Once you do that you should see their page. Then on the top right it should say "send pm" ....which is a personal message.

Tell them whats going on and link them to this thread.

Hopefully thatll help take this guy off the forums

I hope catastrophe punishes breakfast for going off topic.

Just turn up the volume and drown out the sound of the fan. It's not even that loud.... depends how close you are too it.

Vacuum stuff is bull. It would take years and years of incredibly dusty environments for that kind of clogging.

My PS3 is clean as hell, I even tried the vacuum just to confirm its uselessness, and not surprisingly, my fan still kicks in madly. It happens with newer titles mostly.

People are just worried after all the 60 gigs dying and the whole " 360 rings of death" thing. The fan is normal. Is the movie a blue ray?

If I even rub my finger over the outside of the vents, some pretty serious dustballs come of that thing. I can just imagine what's inside. Whenever I open my PC tower it's a bloody jungle in there. My PS3 spent around 6 months in a house with a pug and a long hair cat so I suspect a good vaccuming would work wonders. Unfortunately I don't have a vaccum.

Try taking it to those places..... car wash! They have the big vacuums there. I haven't tried it but you should give it a shot.
