PSPGo sells 30,000 on its first week - Monday, October 05, 2009 8:35 PM
http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=5427

Preliminary data and you know VGChartz, but they've been relatively close with NPD for the past few months. What are your thoughts on the PSPGo launch week numbers? I didn't expect the PSPGo to sell a lot, but 30k is pretty pathetic for its launch week, especially when GT PSP came out on the same day. The people have spoken: PSPGo is a no go.

This is NA only btw.

The DSi sold more than 435'000 in its first week in America, as a comparison. Hell, the original PSP sold more in the first week than even the DSi did, at over half a million units - and that was back when the PSP's line up was completely crap.

Are people really that against the PSPGo, then?

e people have spoken: PSPGo is a no go.

no marketing behind it; outragous  price point; who would buy it?  for $50 dollars, you can get a PS3.

i was one of the 30,000 people who bought it.  i love it actually.  Dont listen to the people who are giving it a bad rep.  they just dont have money to afford it.

its a very beautiful and small product, just that its overpriced.   this is just like what happened with the PS3 after launch, people didnt want to buy it cause it was expensive.  look at it now at a $300 pricepoint, look how ridiculous its selling now..

It's an alternative and should only be thought of as one.

I think that people understand that they don't need to buy the PSP Go if they already have the PSP.

sony are clever. they don't except people to buy the pspgo, they want them to go to the shop, see the pspgo and see the ps3. then they will buy the ps3 because it's nearly the same price, but you get so much more. CLEVER sony

I just saw a PSPGo commercial (first time I've seen it). It's an alright commercial but nothing compelling. When I first heard Kaz announce the $249 price tag, I knew it was going to flop.

Actually know that I think about it they do show it at the end of the GT PSP commercial but only for a quick sec.

anyways if it fails that means PSP2 wont be like it, which to me is a good thing

If people look deeper into the situation, you might come to the same conclusion as I did regarding the existnece of the PSP GO:

1) To test the market for downloads only
2) It brings more attention to the Playstation brand. To explain: before people have heard of the PSP GO nobody cared or talked about PSP. Now people talk about it almost every day.

$250 for a handheld?! Outrageous!

Downloads only?! FAIL!

Oh, well it looks sexy and its the new hot thing out....

All of these factors bring more attention to the PSP brand and overall its just another part of sony's marketing strategy. A brilliant one I might add. Sony shouldnt have any expectations for this product. And yes, if you buy, you ARE being 100% ripped off and are just falling into sony's hands.

Edit: And thats why retailers are even happier to stock PSP GO. It sells PSP.

Marketing is not the problem, atleast here in N.Y  it isn't.
I see Psp Go and GTPsp ads almost every 10 minutes.

we'll see what happens in time, but to think that gamers are ready and willing to have download-able only games which are non transferable, and cannot be backed up is a joke, psp go dies, bye bye games, correct me if i'm wrong but that is how it works right?

I saw a commercial for it.  Only 1 though.  It was a few days ago.

That is pretty bad though.  I'm not too sure if I'll ever get one.

Oh and extremely off topic but I got a promotional code for the EA Store for 25% off anything for my birthday.  If anyone wants it, pm me cause I know I'll never use it.

no... like everything you buy on your psn account that license it is linked to your psn account like on the ps3. If your ps3 dies you don't loose all your games, just redownload them.

You can store your games on your computer using Media Go or on your ps3 and use those as a locker for your games. Also you could redownload the game incase you ever delete it.

that's better than i thought but i still have to ask:i understand that sony also has strong anti piracy measures, would you have to sync you psp go up to re-download the game or something because if your psp died and you bought a replacement in the eyes of sony wouldn't there be 2 registered copies of the game 'in use', i imagine it would be hard for sony to verify whether your psp go is indeed dead. Because if you can make backups wouldn't that mean games could be shared accross multiple psp go's???

Re:PSPGo sells 30,000 on its first week - Tuesday, October 06, 2009 7:46 AM
At $249 I wasn't expecting big numbers anyways, but then again, I did think that it would do more than 30K in it's first week in the U.S. If the Go was priced at $199, I think it would have had a much better launch.

As far as the Advertising goes, I've seen several PSPGo Advertisements, and I even saw one 1 or 2 days before it came out, and saw one a couple of times yesterday, so Sony is advertising it pretty well. I don't have a PSP at all, but I'll probably wait until the Go hits $199 before I get one.
