I'm wondering about this in light of my latest quandry, which is whether or not to plop down $500.00 for the new 80 Gig MGS4 edition PS3.  The Collector's edition intrigued me, but after seeing the $750 pricetag for a 40 Gig system, I just couldn't take the plunge.  I know, I know there are those that say that true collecting wouldn't take into account such trifle matters, but this is a pinch hit economy we're in and runs aren't coming easy if you catch my drift.

I'm on an assignment right now and working in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, which is a great city to find mostly anything you want at any time.  I've been scouring the city looking for an 80 gig from Best Buy to Circuit City, Gamestop, Fry's, etc...  To my dismay everyone sells out of them as soon as they get them in, and my schedule doesn't allow me to truly "camp" out like I love to do.  Anyhoo, to get to the point...one of my last stops yesterday was to go to Gamestop where I had no luck, but the clerk told me to go to Wal-Mart right away, because that's where he just bought his two days before.

Of course I zoomed over to Tram-Law (wal-mart backwards) and scoured the aisles and dodged the multitude of parentless children smashing on the lifeless controllers.  With no luck on my own I decided to ask the most able looking assistant if they had the MGS4 model in stock.  He replied "I don't think so...but let me go look."  I would've normally been excited, but after hearing that a dozen times before from clerks at varying stores, only to leave disappointed and empty handed, my anxious excitement had grown into doubtful skepticism sadly to say.

This time when the clerk came back though, he told me what I though he was -- that, "we don't have any in..," but he also went on to add that, "it's wierd because it's marked deleted on the list."  This piqued my interest and I asked him what on earth he was talking about?  He looked back almost in inferred agreement and said, "yeah it's wierd it's marked deleted..."  I asked, "well what about the 40 gig?" and he replied, that "that one is deleted too, that's what's wierd."

Yeah that is wierd.  I'm in one of the nations largest cities and the world's largest retailer and here this guy is telling me that two of Sony's premiere electronic models are deleted.  No big deal right?

Well that's just it...I have no idea.  I asked the guy for the manifest, so that I could get it on N4G, but he refused.  He surmised that, "maybe it's because they're coming out with ne colors or something.."  I just looked at him, nodded my head in agreement and thought to myself, "yeah buddy you have no clue, just like me."

Maybe someone here @ N4G works at Wal-Mart and can tell me what this really means ((if anything)).   I seriously doubt it's anything big, but if I missed the MGS4 80, I really would like to gear up for the next B I G bundle and am hoping it's KZII, although I have a sneaky feeling that Sony will be pushing MS2 and RFOM2 really hard this time around, so they may feel bundled out by that time, huh?  =(

Again, what I'm really trying to figure out is if anyone knows if Sony will be bundling a special KILLZONE II PS3 unit, because that is something I would really love to have if in fact the 80 Gig MGS4's are all of a sudden out of existence.

Thanks for your input!

Killzone won't be better than MGS4 overall. MGS4 is reason to own a PS3, thus why the bundle is perfect. Killzone, meh. The first didn't really reach the bar (set uber high at the time by Gaylo... Halo), so non-PS3 owners aren't going to want to take the plunge with something they have no meaningful history with.

My parents have more history with MGS than the average non-PS3 gamer has with Killzone.

So, I doubt it.

Sony said they will be restocking 80GB thru out the month so expect something soon. Deleted consoles could mean new models coming out though...who knows

Yeah Sonarus I have no idea what that means.  The guy was a gamer and seemed a little baffled when he came back onto the floor to inform me of the wierdness.

If I can find the 80Gig MGS4 model I'm picking it up.  If they get a wild idea to come out with an 80 gig KZ2 model I'll be pissed, but I'll get it as well.  I've got a 60 and 20 right now, but these machines are so fun I just can't get enough.  I really want Sony to launch a KZ bundle and contrary to what the other guy wrote, I think that this game has garnered so much attention and is the darling of Sony studios at the moment, that a bundle and Collector's Edition seems so logical.  The largesse of the game and it's history alone deserve it imho.

Hey Whoooop,

Thanks.  Yeah I would be in the forums a lot more if it weren't for work.  Since it's a holiday I can slack off a little right now, bit the past few months have seen killer time constraints.  I'm really missing some WarHawk right now and haven't turned my PS3's on in weeks and weeks , but it's all in the purpose of progress and helping others.

When I get back home I'm buying a new house and am going to take some time off to get in some 24-7 gaming marathons like the latter half of 2007 ::sigh::

In the meantime, I'll try to make it a point to sneak in here as much as I can.  Might as well...they've nearly killed me on the front page (down to two bubbles) so this is a much better place to have a realistic and civil discussion than the circus out there!

Maybe Sony's waiting on the final game before they decide whether or not to make a bundle. Obviously if it sucks they won't bother.

Assuming the game works out well I don't see why they wouldn't bundle it with a console. First person shooters are always a big seller.

I have many problems with that.

Even though I have my doubts, we have no idea which game will be better. And being "better" itself is subjective. IMO, not being familiar with the series and not ready to severely lower my online multiplayer standards to MGO...I wouldn't consider MGS4 to be purchase worthy. Killzone 2 (with its multiplayer) could be the next game you put hundreds of hours into...like Halo and Gears.

And I'm sure Madden himself will even tell you he holds 'Gaylo' and Killzone in the same light.

You may think Killzone wasn't much but look at the crazy hype its getting...graphics sell a game. Personally, if Killzone 2 gets rated in the high 8's range, and this possible bundle came with a DS3...I'd be very interested in picking it up.

Well e-baY is stocked with them if you want to go that route

I dont know if there will be a special edition but both MGS4 and KZ2 have some huge hype and to me both deserve a limited edition PS3... If I had to guess I would say yes there will be?

Also I think KZ gets a bum wrap.
I played it when it came out and I was inthralled in it.
I would never of called the original KZ a failure as far as gameplay  goes.

Anyways Good Luck

toughNAME is just being rude about MGS4. Yes it will get a bundle. This contradicts my previous statements but I believe Sony is following Sega down the path to having a new bundle each month.

It's been a few years so I don't remember it that well, but I do remember enjoying KZ 1 enough to play to the end more than once. I did it with the dude that's in the new game and with the Helghan character. Couldn't have been that bad.

the original was a decent game. Sony just overhyped it. It was at least a 7.5

I would support a new limited edition PS3 every few months.
It keeps things fresh and would be good for the company I guess if they can sucker consumerwhores into buying a second or third console based on aesthetic difference's alone.
Then again I will open and mod my own consoles just to change the look, so of course I would support this.

Totally agree Polluted.  I just can't understand why they wouldn't do it for their "baby"?
You're right FPS's usually tend to garner a lot of attention and certainly KZII will have the gaming world in the palm of it's hands right after Christmas and leading up to the lauch so a bundle would really rock.  I just hope that they offer a collector's edition 80 Gig.  Even if it's 750 I would at least consider it.  The MGS4 CE is so cool with that Gun Metal finish, but there's no way I can rationalize spending $750 on a 40 GIG system.

Every few months is fine. We don't want a new color every week like the DS though.

Also weren't Sony talking about stopping production of the 80GBs? I thought the MGS4 bundles were the last ones?

My spell checker underlines "consumerwhores". But that's what I am. I used to call myself tech junkie before but consumerwhore is better

RuJoshin, Toughname -- you both bring up good points.  I never thought of the possibility (the very real possibility) that Sony might be bringing bundles out everytime a "system seller" is just around the corner -- thank God there wasn't a HAZE bundle, because that would've made the whole idea and future delivery of such items very shady and anticlimatic in the public's eye.  It's a fine line, because they have to make sure that whatever they're bundling is a sure fire hit and something that doesn't damage the brand.  MGS, Gran Turismo, GTA, Motorstorm -- all except 1 of these were already proven sure fire hits and MS went on to be absolutely splendid imho.

They should be careful though not to saturate the market though with too many bundles, because it will lose the luster too quickly in the consumers eye -- making it look common rather than pertaining to some exclusivity that you're getting with the bundle pack, especially a collector's edition.  Maybe I'm being a little selfish, but I believe that a KZII Collector's Edition would be something really major.

Think about it... this game is almost like some video game UFO.  It's out there, we're astonished by it for whatever reason, but it's history has been shrouded in secrecy and controversy since day one, and everyone has their own opinion.  Of course, like Bama, I love the game and played KZ1 incessantly.  I want this bundle and think that it will really move units just from a real Collector's standpoint.  Hell, if there really is a Collector's Edition, I'll have to buy two, because I won't be able to open the other one.  Damn!

You can get the MGS4 80 GB on ebay for much less than 750 new on e-bay, Maddens.
Maybe you dont e-bay I dunno but if I couldnt find any I would definately consider it.
Or just wait and see for KZ2 and see if you can nab one of those... But who knows what it will look like if there is one.... It could be ugly?
Unfortunately every LE CE console editions are not pretty... the Halo LE 360 was god awfully ugly IMO

The ONE TIME I defend Killzone 2...and I still get called out lol

You may have a different opinion on MGS4, but just because you don't like what I have to say doesn't mean you have the right to call me 'rude'.

I'm defending my right to free speech...hopefully this doesn't get deleted and I get banned *cough*

RuJoshin-san I didn't know that there were MGS4 LE's on eBay for less than $750 brand new.  I will definitely check that out.  I've had a couple of bad experiences on eB and just gave up on it about 3 years ago.   I would be so pissed if I got a rotten system or it was somehow damaged aesthetically not by my own doing.  I agree that the HaloLE was not the prettiest, but I still would want one just to have it in the box and stored away for "future use".  Thanks for the heads up dude.  I still want to see what the hell was going on at Wal-Mart and why the 40 and 80 GIGs said "deleted" on the guy's manifest?
