I'm wondering about this in light of my latest quandry, which is whether or not to plop down $500.00 for the new 80 Gig MGS4 edition PS3. The Collector's edition intrigued me, but after seeing the $750 pricetag for a 40 Gig system, I just couldn't take the plunge. I know, I know there are those that say that true collecting wouldn't take into account such trifle matters, but this is a pinch hit economy we're in and runs aren't coming easy if you catch my drift. I'm on an assignment right now and working in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, which is a great city to find mostly anything you want at any time. I've been scouring the city looking for an 80 gig from Best Buy to Circuit City, Gamestop, Fry's, etc... To my dismay everyone sells out of them as soon as they get them in, and my schedule doesn't allow me to truly "camp" out like I love to do. Anyhoo, to get to the point...one of my last stops yesterday was to go to Gamestop where I had no luck, but the clerk told me to go to Wal-Mart right away, because that's where he just bought his two days before. Of course I zoomed over to Tram-Law (wal-mart backwards) and scoured the aisles and dodged the multitude of parentless children smashing on the lifeless controllers. With no luck on my own I decided to ask the most able looking assistant if they had the MGS4 model in stock. He replied "I don't think so...but let me go look." I would've normally been excited, but after hearing that a dozen times before from clerks at varying stores, only to leave disappointed and empty handed, my anxious excitement had grown into doubtful skepticism sadly to say. This time when the clerk came back though, he told me what I though he was -- that, "we don't have any in..," but he also went on to add that, "it's wierd because it's marked deleted on the list." This piqued my interest and I asked him what on earth he was talking about? He looked back almost in inferred agreement and said, "yeah it's wierd it's marked deleted..." I asked, "well what about the 40 gig?" and he replied, that "that one is deleted too, that's what's wierd." Yeah that is wierd. I'm in one of the nations largest cities and the world's largest retailer and here this guy is telling me that two of Sony's premiere electronic models are deleted. No big deal right? Well that's just it...I have no idea. I asked the guy for the manifest, so that I could get it on N4G, but he refused. He surmised that, "maybe it's because they're coming out with ne colors or something.." I just looked at him, nodded my head in agreement and thought to myself, "yeah buddy you have no clue, just like me." Maybe someone here @ N4G works at Wal-Mart and can tell me what this really means ((if anything)). I seriously doubt it's anything big, but if I missed the MGS4 80, I really would like to gear up for the next B I G bundle and am hoping it's KZII, although I have a sneaky feeling that Sony will be pushing MS2 and RFOM2 really hard this time around, so they may feel bundled out by that time, huh? =( Again, what I'm really trying to figure out is if anyone knows if Sony will be bundling a special KILLZONE II PS3 unit, because that is something I would really love to have if in fact the 80 Gig MGS4's are all of a sudden out of existence.
