Alright, I feel like being in debate mode today, even though I have a final in Bio tomorrow, but that is besides the point.

Here goes, this is going to be a very racially sensitive topic, so if you become offended by other peoples' opinions, please stay clear of this thread.

This thread is not meant to put down any race, this is just a debate.

Are all races capable of racism?

Discuss.

Of course they can. But I suppose it depends on what you think racism is. Example. I was looking on Gametrailers forums and someone called someone a Jap, people were saying that's racist. Is that racist?

I think it's derogatory. Because when the Japanese immigrants were first coming to North America, the residents of the continent called them "Japs" as an offensive term.

Like I said on my previous post, I've been using that term for a whiiile, I didn't even know what it ment till a year or so ago. I love the japanese culture and stuff, but I didn't know...
How did I find out?.......Someone called me an **** and a racist  for saying it and explained to me what it ment. He thought I was racist, when I didn't even know its true meaning....

Yeah, it depends on how you use these words, if you used Jap as an abbreviation of the Japanese then it would be fine.

I think its only racist if it is used in a demeaning or abusive way.

if all people are equal to one another then yes everyone can be racist...saying otherwise instills the racial barriers even further... which is why i hated sociology when i took it, i disagreed with everything in that class... but no matter i lied on the tests and got an A!

Also, another thing to put into this conversation, which has sort of a relation to the 'Jap' situation; How do you guys feel about the word 'Jew', I know that word gets tossed around a lot these days, I may be part ethnically jewish, but I don't know.

Do you guys think that people use the word 'Jew' as a racial distinction, or a slander towards a religion? How do you guys feel about denominational slander?

That is a pretty big topic, and it will probably get pretty heated, I expect the racism one to, but please keep your comments educated and explain your feelings with the logic you see best fit.

Jap is an offensive term whether used that way or not. You won't go calling a black guy the N word and when he wants to fvk you up will you say "hey man chill i didn't mean it in an offensive way"

Well, I personally feel that calling someone a Jap would be offensive. I don't know the context, but if you think about it, that is basically reducing someone to a stereotype, and whatever stereotype they were referring to, they abbreviated it with Jap, and they most likely meant it in a negative context.

I do feel that all races can exhibit racism, it is present everywhere you go, watch peoples' body language if you ever have time at a public place. I don't know if this is human instinct to not like change or anything that is different, but it is definately there.

Yep, the definition of racism is only when the vitim finds a comment or action offensive - not how other people feel about it. It's a form of discrimination.

It's more difficult on the internet as some people might be offended by something that others wouldn't, atleast in person you can tell through how they act.

What I find intriguing about racism is that it is born from one's own sense of insecurity.
It exists for the sake of existing and is baseless. There is no real reason for racism.

I believe it is influenced by our natural instincts.

These would be uncontrollable actions from the midbrain, which would be the resistance to change, and anything that is different. This is true with most organisms on the planet. Anything that is different, unless beneficial, is usually unwanted.

That is just what I believe, and sorry to bring anthropology into the convo, but I think that it all boils down to our species' characteristics.

Its very easy to call that racist. Some people get a little silly with the racist thing. An example would be calling RE5 racist...that is just straight up garbage.

I think one of the reasons for it is if one culture or type of people have a bad reputation, then this might lead some people to not like every person of the same culture. That is the only reason I can find for it.

I think the biggest problem with racism is fixing it.

There is no way for racism to not exist in this world.

Let's take America for example: Affirmative Action.

Yes this was a great thing and it gave minorities an equal opportunity for success, which is great.

But this also lead to reverse-racism, whereas there could be a Caucasian candidate that is best suited for the job, but it would go to a lesser qualified minority, just to keep the higher ups in the company safe.

How do you feel about this?

I personally feel that affirmative action was a great implementation in the american job economy, but I think it has gone a bit too far, and when people say this, other people see that as racist.
