Hi all

I'm not only new to this site but new to owning a playstation 3 which I purchased a couple of days ago.  It's all been set up and works with all games that I have purchased.  The only one that is not working on it is Ratchet and Clank which I actually won off of a radio station.  It's a promo and am not sure if that makes any difference.  When it is loading up it asks for the HDD to be free up of space.  Yet the HDD is free due to being new.  I contacted the radio station and they said send it in and they would look at it.  They looked at it and said it worked fine but that they would send another copy out to me and they did.  Received that today so tried it and again this one is also asking for me to free up the HDD now I don't get that the only thing I can think of is that the 80g which is the one I brought doesn't like to read Promo versions of games and that the radio station has a 60g or 40g I don't know didn't ask them that yet.  But any ways has anyone else striked this problem or is there something I'm doing wrong? Any help would be much appreicated.  Thanks in advance :)

How much space do you have left on your harddrive?

go onto system settings, then system information, then check how much space it has left

Yeah, that's a strange issue you have there... Update your firmware, as suggested above, and then format your HDD. Should work fine after that, wotwot.

Thanks for all your suggestions.  I checked and it says 64/74 now that has me a little confused since this is supposed to be an 80g does this mean I don't have an 80g ?  I will try as suggested above to see if I can't get the game to work, again many thanks for your suggestions :)

Oddly, when Ratchet and Clank released, that problem happened alot, just try erasing something off your PS3, like a saved game or something and it should let you play it after that or if you like dont have really anything to erase download a few videos off of PSN that should fix the problem. My office tried to figure that problem out, but we have no clue what causes the game to do that, so ether erasing or adding things to your hard drive is the only way we found you could play the game if it said that.

You do, don't worry. It's just that a certain amount of your HDD is taken up by PS3 files needed to allow the PS3 to use the HDD. These files generally take up between 10 and 15GB.

You also loose space on a hard drive when it has been formatted.

This is the first thread of this type where I have actually seen everybody helping the guy/gal out. Usually you would have 5 trolls saying to fix it get a different system. Good job people!

If a hard drive is 1 gig that means that it is 1,000,000,000 bytes. One Kilobyte is 1024 bytes, one Megabyte is 1024 Kilobytes, and one Gigabyte is 1024 Megabytes. So the actual formatted size of a 1 gig drive would be .93 Gigabytes (1,000,000,000 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024)

Hope that helps.

Thank you Le-mo, ben1054, Crillyconlig, The Corrupt, Forbidden_Darkness, Violater, Joe382, Surfengineer, Solidsnake93, Jdash24, Adamalicious and Jack007 I have tried everything except the format.  So far nothing has worked so I will be doing the full format some time later today. I'll report back in once I have done this just to let you know if it worked or not, thanks again for all your suggestions and being so supportive :)

If you do have important stuff on your ps3, just backit up if you have a flashdrive(usb) and once you format, pop it back on through the flashdrive.

If the format don't work then contact Sony, they will help as if they can't then they'll probally send you a new ps3 as your ps3 might be the Problem.
