My computer just got a horrible, HORRIBLE virus attack and is pretty much done for. My computer was given to me by someone who I can no longer contact, so I can't figure out the serial key to Windows XP... so downloading a copy is out of the question *and yes, the virus removed the serial key from the SYSTEM screen*. I can't afford to purchase a XP disc right now, so I need something free, user friendly (especially for a long-time windows user) and overall reliable.

BTW i'm typing this from someone else's computer.

Yeah, either Ubuntu or Kubuntu (they are the same apart from one using GNOME and the other KDE). I'm no expert (just started using Linux) but Ubuntu/Kubuntu is very user-friendly.

Well I ended up going with ubuntu... not too bad so far. The only thing i'm having trouble getting a hang of is installing stuff, it's so weird with the .tar gz stuff. I'll probably get the hang of it eventually though.
