Recommended DS games? - Wednesday, October 21, 2009 3:52 PM
Hi guys, since I am college right now and I have a good amount of free time in between classes I was looking to buy new DS titles and I wanted to know which one would some of you recommend that are (relativly) cheap and have a good amount of length to keep me busy over the upcoming semester(s)

thanks

I'm glad to oblige but first I need to know what genres you like and some games that you personally enjoy. That'll make it a lot easier.

I think due to the length thing RPGish or adventure games would do

Well for RPGs you're spoilt for choice, there's FFIII and IV(and soon FF Gaiden), Dragon Quest IV, V, Monsters: Joker(and soon DQIX and DQVI), Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, FF: CC: Ring of Fates(for single player) and Echoes of Time(for multiplayer), Pokémon, Mario and Luigi RPG 3, TWEWY, Rhapsody, Suikoden Teirkeis, Shin Megami Tensei: DS(and soon to be Strange Journey), The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick road, Chrono Trigger, Etrian Odyssey, Dark Spire, Knights in the Nightmare. Upcoming we have Blood of Bahamut, SaGa 2, Nostalgia, Blue Dragon: Behemoth of the Otherworld.

For strategy RPGs you have the nice selection of FF Tactics A2, Fire Emblem, Disgaea, Luminious Arc, Valkyrie Profile(not that great) and some others like Hoshigami(also not that good).

Those are just off the top of my head, other people will be able to add more.

The World Ends With You

Golden Sun DS  will most likely be very good to wait for.

Thanks for the list good sir , I am actually interested in those in bold (I was recommended FFIV over III), one that I don't know since I am on the fence is Zelda Phantom Hourglass since I loved the ones on the Gameboy Color and Advance but I don't know how this one plays

Also I wanted the Castlevanias (that I am missing) but Portrait of Ruin is at fraking $67 for who knows what reason and I am also on the fence about Order of Ecclesia

These are my favorite RPGs (recommendations) on the DS:

- Final Fantasy IV

- Chrono Trigger (if you played it before on the SNES or w/e, it's not worth buying/playing again.)

- Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (the little mini-games before you attack add a little freshness and fun into the game.)

- Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor (you place your characters on a grid like any ordinary SRPG, but actual battles are presented in a first-person turn based system. Each character can carry two demons, so it's like an ordinary RPG. There are hundreds of demons to fuse or buy, and you'll get addicted to it. Great game this is.)

- Disgaea DS (funny and deep game)

- The Dark Spire (it's a first-person dungeon crawler. Nice artstyle and music. It's pretty difficult, so if you're not up for a challenge, don't pick it up. This is actually a hard game unlike Demon's Souls.)

- Super Robot Taisen: Endless Frontier (the dialogue is pretty hilarious, and the battle system isn't that bad.)

- Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (I recently got this game with the Toys R us deal, and it's a good SRPG)

I personally didn't like TWEWY. The music and artstyle are nice, but the gameplay didn't cut it for me. I felt it was just mindless swipes and presses, but I only played it for 3 hours.

Also guys does anyone know which DS protector should I get? cuz I saw some tiny scratches and if I am gonna start using it more I don't want no scratches in my beautiful piano black finish

just based on brand recognition I was recommended this
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-DS-Lite-Protector-Clear/dp/B0014DUYCG/ref=pd_sim_vg_1 (black or white?)

You should definitely get Zelda and the Phantom Hourglass.
Scribblenauts is pretty fun too. its fun to play for short amounts of time.
I also have played a bit of GTA chinatown wars and its pretty good (but I hate the language. the swearing is overdone if you ask me, but its something I know others are not bothered with)

Yeah I think one of the 2 games that I am gonna buy is gonna be Phantom Hourglass  and the other I think might be Final Fantasy IV but I am kind of uncertain cuz reading some reviews many mention that the game can be very unforgiving and frustrating
